Big, rich, dark cherry, and blackberry fruit. A full velvety mouthful. Nice core of minerality. Earthyness, forest floor, and mushrooms. Perhaps a touch of leather, and a hint of Cacao. Nose of violets, red plums, and anise. Long pleasant finish.

Medium rare grilled rib eye.

Ojai Syrah Thompson Vineyard 2005 (purchased when a friend did a summer internship at the winery)

Still a monster with well-integrated tannins, soft vanilla, roasted meat and oak. Just a touch of brown on the rim. Could have cellered this for many more years.

I've had mainly local wines lately (Retzlaff, Livermore). For thanksgiving we opened a 2008 Pontet Canet and a 2011 Corison Cab. Both excellent wines.
