XL Pipeline Cancelled
1. Author: zitotczitoDate: Sat, 1/23/2021, 9:16PM EST
“The United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) issued the following statement today following the news that the Biden-Harris Administration plans to rescind the permit and effectively end construction on the Keystone XL pipeline:

“ ‘In revoking this permit, the Biden Administration has chosen to listen to the voices of fringe activists instead of union members and the American consumer on Day 1. Let me be very clear: When built with union labor by the men and women of the United Association, pipelines like Keystone XL remain the safest and most efficient modes of energy transportation in the world. Sadly, the Biden Administration has now put thousands of union workers out of work. For the average American family, it means energy costs will go up and communities will no longer see the local investments that come with pipeline construction,’ said Mark McManus, General President of the United Association.”

The union backed Biden, so good glad he screwed you. Now get lost and eat your government supplied cat food and stop the whining.

Yeah, the only jobs lost are union jobs. Blinders on much?

C'mon frank, you're smarter than that.

Anyone happy a working man or woman is out of a job is clearly an POS and deserves to let from go from a traveling job in a far away location with no recourse.

Awesome, a tip of the colorful narrow brimmed welder's hat to HockeySon. I was certified to welcome on structural steel in Los Angeles and had a second job in a welding school before getting into the nuclear power plant construction business.

So Joe would rather we send our money to the Middle East or Venezuela than to our Canadian neighbors.

Oh, and move oil by train on crappy railroads instead of a pipelines, like those that cris cross the country.

If you agree with this decision, please, shut off your gas meter at your house and have your automobiles crushed, it's the least you can do.

He started off on ocean going oil tanker repair then got into the pipe fitter/welder union. He travels all around the county. Refineries, power plants, chemical plants, pipelines etc. his last gig was an Intel plant in Portland. He’s holed up with his girlfriend in Vegas now and we got to see him between Christmas and New Years. It had been three years.

Covid the industry hard. Difficult to social distance.

It sounds like he is getting the best kind of experience.

My younger son just left an oilfield field machining and service company, Team Industrial. He is friends with one of their crackerjack problem solving welders. That welder makes more money than most of their top managers, plus the satisfaction of bing that guy that got it done.

Now...who pays for the storage or destruction of the pipe that was going to be used?

YOU do.

The OP makes very good points. The pipeline was a source for thousands of highly paid jobs. Gone.
The pipeline is a carbon-free means to transport the oil. Gone.
The pipeline "just happens" to thread its way through predominantly Red states. Coincidence.
The pipeline was a feather in Trump's cap. "unrelated", I'm sure.

This is pure politics in the worst sense.
If there are legitimate concerns with the pipeline then it should be discussed. Not dismissed.

I don't like most unions. Trade unions are different. And they're losing a lot on this.
And American's will feel it at the pump. Which is the plan. It's easier to pitch AOC's green new deal when gas prices are high.

I don’t hate Indians. I H1 visa them to work here. As for Native Americans, I don’t hate them either. I just recognize that they are just pawns in the whole Keystone XL and always will be. They don’t even factor into the decision but it is quant that we let them feel like they do matter.

most of the jobs lost were temporary seasonal construction jobs, 4-8 months for two years at most...and 11,000 is a high estimate, for part-time jobs

only 35 permanent maintenance type jobs

maybe we should count the lower paying jobs lost that would've been created for environmental cleanups....

OK, back to real world and my lack of knowledge on this specific subject.
Have these jobs been on-going and are they now eliminated or will this just prevent (delay?) them from materializing?
Both scenarios are bad but the former is worse...

Last question for now, why didn't this get cleared up in the 4 years Trump had to work on it?

OK, one more. Do we need this for any reasons other than jobs?

Thanks

I too hate to see anyone lose their job (union or otherwise), but I was thinking something similar: What percentage of U.S. oil consumption would the new addition to the pipeline have provided?
50. Author: HockeyDadDate: Sun, 1/24/2021, 8:17PM EST
Some of the jobs were oncoming and are now eliminated.

Many of the jobs were already under contract for 2021. Those are also now eliminated.

It didn’t get cleared up under the Trump years because of the typical environmental challenges.

I think it would have provided around 900,000 barrels a day. We can just import that from the Saudis but that increases our dependence on Middle East instability.
