By the way this conversation remind me so much of the 70s and early 80s when the japs were buying America and the deficit went crazy. Then the 90s made us forget and take our eye off the ball (to be kind). It's almost like an addiction. It is perilous but we can deal with it. We must, and we will. It's a pendulum and it's time.

I have to agree TW.... never been one to panic and some see that as not caring or being uniformed... if I had been born in raised in the middle east somewhere you'd prolly see me panicing... and as sson as I see the comet in my telescope.. 😟

I'm not trying to bust DMVs balls and really have no desire to argue. I stipulate the problem is dire and must be addressed. I agree with him there. There is really no need to further educate or dip into that well.

Where we seem to diverge is our view of the future. I care deeply and I will do my best to move things along the correct path. Hysterics never seem very productive to me especially in times of crisis.

I respect your opinion and understanding of the issue but am amused that you seem to think that anyone who does not fall exactly in line with your thinking is somehow not thinking or even burring their head in the sand. It's an interesting paradox to me. Not an uncommon one but an amusing one none the less.

By all means, then please explain how you continue to have to the same entitlements and services when America cannot even make the interest payments on the debt?

This isn't something to "be amused" at.

There is no "line" to follow.

You either understand it (which I don't think you do because of your statements in this thread alone!) or you don't. You can raise awareness, educate and prepare yourself or just dream of yesterday when children can just be children and play all day.

The manner in which we've conducted ourselves as a nation IS OVER!

The "cradle to grave" pacifier that people have been lulled into thinking was their "right" is now going to be snatched away from their mouths. The "crying" will be loud.

Where DO you cut?:-k

Look at the debt clock link...which ones are racking up the most? CUT THEM! END THEM!=;

Funny stuff?

Hardly!

maybe I'm selfish but my future comes first... I feel confident in mine so I guess I don't stress as much... then again I could end up stuck in a wheelchair tomorrow and that would change everything.... but I prefer to think that won't happen...

Once again you prove my point. I never once said we do not need to cut entitlements or anything else. I actually said we need to make changes numerous times. That is the paradox. While you tell others they must think and do not understand things you are not listening, thinking about what they are actually saying and understanding their thoughts. You are talking to not with.

Americans need to learn to live within their means. This recession has only slightly taught us that lesson.
American government needs to learn to live within its means.
Much of America as we see it today in it's wonderful splendor has been built on relatively cheap credit. Our economy runs on cheap credit and cheap energy.

Any glorious talk of America's best days still lie ahead is rubbish until these things are accomplished. In the meantime, there is plenty of money to be made dismantling and retooling the empire.

I agree with this for the most part. Maybe we are stuck a bit in semantics. The dream is still alive and well (not rubbish) but we do need to make changes to preserve it or keep it alive. The dream is not dead

Our best days are still ahead of us but we must and will make changes. There will never be a time when the need to make changes does not exist.

Seriously I think we agree more than disagree on the issue and the fact that it must be addressed. It's just interesting to me that that isn't pretty clear to you. If it isn't exact it seems to be not at all.

Once the national bankruptcy is declared and the dollar goes to zero, there is no reason to keep the states together.

Breaking up the Union could be considered "best days ahead of us".

There is no need to address the issue as long as the world continues to loan us money with the implied promise that we will ultimately massively raise taxes to pay them back. As long as the world believes they will get paid back with either taxpayer dollars, or Federal land there is no issue.

I hope there are good sales at the mall this weekend.
