What part of PUBLIC BROADCASTING STATION don't YOU get?

If it's sustainable...let it happen on its OWN accord...not off the backs of taxpayers!

Jeez...pull your head out and tell her to get out of MY pockets! She can root around in yours all she wants, but not mine!

I agree that we should have a measuring stick, but I have one complaint about your methodology. China owns about 1.1 trillion in US foreign debt (roughly the same amount as Japan) and that number has actually been trending down. The current public debt is around 16 trillion, so China holds a whopping 6.9% of our debt. I have no clue why we are concerned about China. If nothing else, they're unlikely to ever do anything that could harm us as it would ruin their holdings and their economy. They are much more dependent on us than the other way around.

We only need a measuring stick if we ever actually plan to pay back off the national debt.

Is it worth borrowing from China?
Is it worth borrowing from Japan?
Is it worth borrowing from your 401K invested in Treasury bonds?
Is it worth borrowing from your parents' social security?

We HAVE to have somebody to blame for our own poor behavior. Personal responsibility was tossed out a LONG time ago. It's easier to blame it on booze...the paparazzi...Ambien...bad heroin...good heroin...heroin in general...general heroin...generals on heroin...it doesn't matter. The place is on fire and we have Owedumba dancing around in it wearing a gauze suit soaked in sterno carrying 5 gallon gas cans...it's not our fault...blame those people that are waaaaay over there that talk funny...yeah....that's the ticket!

I used china because Mittens used china.
But china is just a catch phrase. Don't get too caught up on the term, but rather pay attention to the intent.
It's good, basic logic.

Like when the cable company wants to charge you $3 to rent a fancy remote control.
3 Bucks. No big deal. About a dime a day. Who can't afford that?
But $3/month becomes $36 annually.
And in 10 years, you've paid $360 for a friggin remote that you could purchase for $15 at any electronics store.

It's amazing how quickly the small things add up.
We need to qualify every dime or we're going to burden our kids with our mistakes.

Yeah, again, I'm okay with the rest of it- just wasn't sure if you were being literal. Some people do not have as strong a grasp on the subject and will swear up and down that China is buying our debt to take us over or some such nonsense, and it's really irritating to have them in a group at a party.

Ha, ha. Just giving you back what you expect from me. Don't want you to be disappointed.

Bush screwed up this country big time, but Obama has done far more damage in his 4 years then Bush did in his 8. Can't wrap my head around how half this country can support this loser. Freak'n mind boggling.

For the record. I'm a registered Libertarian, and have been voting such since '96. I don't listen to talk radio and never watch Fox News. I dislike both the Reps and Dems, but feel the Dems are a far greater threat. Both parties are destroying this once great nation, but the Dems and Obama are doing it at hyper speed. The only way to save this country is to elect Libertarians or Constitutionalists to power, but with all the "what free stuff are you going to give me?" types out there, that will never happen. This nation is done. The only question is, who's going to flush it the fastest?

dpnewell wrote:

I don't ultimately disagree with that statement, my only quibble would be with the "who's doing it faster" concept. I don't think the speed of decline is as bad as you think, a lot of crap gets blown out of proportion by people with a vested interest in making you scared. But, if the titanic is sinking, it really is irrelevant the rate, or whether it was an iceberg or a really fat radio personality that put the hole in the ship.

As for the nation being done... well that's an interesting issue, worthy of a full discussion of its own. Would anything change if the nation were "done"? You'd still be here. I'd still be here. Odds are whatever job you are doing would still need to be done. What changes, what remains to be recycled into another form? Inflammatory statements decrying the end of the country and implying that this will be followed by some sort of insane Armageddon are likely inaccurate... I'd be curious to see what the end of America actually is.

Obama spent the day telling his followers that Romney lied last night. He said something to the effect that a President must be honest, and Romney can't be President because he's a lier. If he really believes the line he's spewing, I would say Obama is suffering from a severe case of Freudian Projection.
