Somewhat related to other threads running around....
Why do people think that there is a limited number of poorly socialized individuals on the internet? Any time someone shows up who you don't get along with you automatically assume that it must be someone you didn't get along with before, only under a different name....
The internet is a big place... there are more trolls than you'd be able to argue with in your lifetime, and some are here (I don't necessarily consider scompay a troll... he may not get along with some here, but there are others who consistently exhibit more "troll-like" behavior). Hell, they don't even need to be trolls, there are a lot of opinionated people on this forum, and they will argue with each other.
Just because you didn't like or agree with someone 3 years ago, doesn't mean the person you don't like or agree with today is the same person.
Hell, with so many people out there on the internet, the chances of someone new showing up who you don't like are probably higher than the chances of someone who left returning because they "missed you".
So why do we assume they must be the same people? I think it's an inability to grasp the world in its vastness. A human being has a lot of trouble understanding truly large numbers, so it's hard sometimes to realize that those same large numbers have a huge effect on the vast variety of people you are able to interact with on the internet (where space is removed from the equation). ... almost a teenage self-absorption where they are unable to grasp a world outside of what they already know.
The other possibility is that the people thinking this have some unresolved guilt over driving posters away, and they want to try to make themselves feel better by convincing themselves that the poster must have returned... I dunno....
Anyway, what I'm trying to get at is it's tiring to keep seeing the "he must be XXX! because I disliked both of them!" posts... maybe some people actually do return, but your odds are pretty high that a new person is actually a new person, even if you disagree with them (in some of your cases, especially if you disagree with them).
