That's why I don't find it cowardly to not beleive. Belief provides comfort and relief. If there is no God then it doesn't matter what we think. If there is id rather be on its good side. Don't mistake not finding atheists as cowards as anything other than a pragmatic thought.

It's a false bet if one believes in an omniscient dirty. Said diety would putatively understand who was being faithful and good simply to play the odds vs those who aren't.

Of course it's possible that this relationship with this invisible dirty is completely transactional, and he/she doesn't care what you think as long as you say the right things they will reward you... If that's the case congrats, your god turned you out.

I would tell you that even an atheist comes to know God in their own way.

That said, people cannot help but rationalize their beliefs. But it doesn't make them any more convincing.

Never said believing in God is the only logical bet. I just think if what you beleive is true we end up in the same place. If what I beleive is true then we don't and you will not like where you land much. I truly beleive what I do and that came first. It wasn't driven by the realization you are going to hell, it just recognizes such. I wish you weren't going to be damned to eternal hell but accept your desire to do so LOL.

If there is such a thing true, but most atheists don't thing there is such a thing so they likely have the same issue.

I'm just not inclined to care if you think what I think and am amused by folks that pretend that to be true when it's the furthest thing from the truth.

It's an interesting discussion... probably more interesting than a thread titled "Indiana" deserves.

On one side you have those who argue that to have faith in something you cannot see or have any evidence for, blind faith, so to speak, is the greatest challenge.

On the other side, without that "faith", without any larger being to believe in you have a number of very real challenges on a daily basis... purpose, morality, the finite-ness of life, the entire concept of not existing ever again at some time.

Without faith, you "know" that the universe is a random event. Purely coincidental, therefore there is no deeper meaning to life then there is for, say, a blade of grass. It just is. You can discover the HOW, but you "know" there is no WHY.

You're trying to create a challenge that doesn't exist, just to prop up a non-believer as somehow more courageous.

Tail, you missed the point.

Without your larger diety, you're right, there is no external purpose.

So why do I bother going to work? Why did I do any of the things I have done in life? I would argue that without a diety, being forced to find your own internal meaning and purpose in life is a much greater challenge.
