Are the prices generally decent compared to retail etc? I usually go to look at all the candy but haven't seriously compared prices. I'm going to another this weekend and will probably pick something up (although the obammy hysteria may drive prices up).

prices at the shows are generally no better than the retail stores but, the selection is much better. Usually a great many used firearms for sale at gun shows as well as curio and relic type guns. A good venue to compare features of various mfg.

there are plenty of gougers at gun shows but you can still find some deals, especially on less popular or antique/military type stuff. i dont even go anymore but i used to enjoy them. i went to my last one after the newtown panic, was disgusted by the incredible price gouging, and havent been back since.

its hard to beat online prices.

I go every few months but more to browse. Haven't been seriously in the market. But I'd pick the right one up if I saw it. Selection of new around here (non-gun show) is pretty vast. been looking at cabellas lately.

Yessir, just find an FFL near you TW that's willing to handle the transaction beforehand. There's usually a very nominal fee involved AND you get to establish a relationship with the owner...win win

Be very leary buying a gun at a flyby night
gun show....
The sellers run the gamut of good to terrible.
No guarantees at all.

They are great places to compare guns, feel the actions and workmanship.
Great places to buy ammo, clips/ magazines, holsters, gun parts, ...i.e. extras....

I have only bought one rifle at a gun show and I did my homework for months before going.

Unless it comes in a new box, don't buy it.

I've got a buddy that's ffl. He's a fanatic with enough guns for his own militia, does his own smithing as well. I just don't want to make it the center of my life which involving him will do for awhile.

When I buy a gun I can't get out of my ffl's house in under 2 hours. The dude is a talker and always wants to show me 50 things. Just when I think I'm done his son comes down and does the same (they are both armorers).

teedubbya, I have bought guns offline and used an ffl out here in Cali.

Try Bud's Gun Shop in KY. Some very good prices and even with shipping and my FFL's fee, it was $150 cheaper to buy it from Bud's then from a store or gun show out here.
I have found some guys will haggle at gun shows, you just have to know what price you can get it for elsewhere so you can leverage.

I got the "well you can't get the gun for about 7-10 days if you get it offline vs. 3 days from us" bit.

But then I told the guy, "I don't NEED the gun right away, now are you going to match that price or not?"

Going with my buddy the gunsmith to a show on Saturday. He also wants to downsize and says he'll give me a good deal. I think I want a 9mm though which is an issue with him. He likes larger caliber and has no 9mm.

very little difference diameter wise between the 9mm and a 357.. like .002" or somethin... I've been looking for a 357 revolver myself.... 😟

Most people know what they have and know the pricepoint. You're not going to get a real 1861 Navy Colt revolver for 300 bucks.

It's a good way to put a set of eyes on stuff that places like Gander Mtn or Bass Pro Shop aren't ever going to carry.

I've got a semm-auto 9 that won't shoot hollow-points without jamming if I rapid fire.. Tried polishing it and stuff but just go with da round nose now... I've always liked loud so the revolver interests me... 😟

They're filled hollow points and work fantastic. They cycle flawlessly in some of my pickier handguns. I mostly handload my ammo, and tailor it for the gun but for off the shelf I've not had any issue with these.
