There are places that a wall in indicated such as around densely populated areas. In some areas, motion, infrared and/or sound detectors make work better, perhaps with a fence. In wilderness areas maybe just the detectors.

Plus we need to increase the size of the Border Patrol interdiction agents significantly so the can patrol and respond anywhere along the border. Maybe some type of aircraft squadron with planes that can detect foot traffic paired with troop transport helicopters that can deploy interdiction teams.

But, the notion that we need to build our own version of the Great Wall along the 1900+ mile border is nonsense.

Why is there no outrage towards Crying Chuck..?? Isn't he being just as stubborn as Trump... He coulda stopped the shutdown... Trump was asking for .1% of da budget... What percentage is going to taking care of the illegals.. :-k

The drones and sensors and stuff are good ideas.. but they would be more effective with a wall... Why not both..?? I believe this is all just a slap to Trump.. this is what bothers me most...
make it more difficult and there will be less ILLEGAL immigration... Which will cost us less in the long run... Asylum seekers have legal alternatives... 😟

Spey, your reading seems to have tunnel vision. I have said only that the authorities say SOME areas would be most cost effective to have a wall. I have never been in favor of a wall along the entire border. There are many options for other areas.

If your poll asked "are you in favor of paying $50B for a wall along the southern border?" Most would say no.

If your poll asked "are you in favor of a wall in areas that DHS says this is the best option?" I think most would say yes.

The way the question is asked determines the outcome.

I cannot name one single person with power or potential power to affect the outcomes (shutdown, wall, budget, etc.) that cares even a little bit about what might be effective. Or cost effective.

Saw an article that says $5B will build 215 miles of wall. Has me wondering if spending $50B for all 1900 miles wouldn’t be cheaper than the cost of technology and salaries to to secure the border with technology since the latter will have a much higher recurring annual cost.

Regardless, even a wall will require boots on the ground. Left unchecked guides will either lead people over or under the wall. Though they will have to establish passes which will serve as choke points.

Deadeye, you chose to act the angry fool with your comments to me. In many, many posts I have categorically stated I want illigal aliens stopped from entering our country. You take umbrage that I don't want Trumps wall. I want more effective border control than a wall can provide. We need significantly more boots on the ground and in the air. We need significantly more electronic counter measures. We need the deportation law rewritten so we can have instantaneous deportation. In sections we need a wall. My gripe is that we can do better than a wall with whatever money needs to be allocated to properly secure the border. Your insult is dusky noted.

I have 10 acres with an underground electrical barrier. Far more cost effective than a fence. One of my dogs is a blue heeler, to be sure be wouldn't jump or climb a fence I would have needed a 8 ft high wrought iron fence. To make sure he didn't dig his way out I would have had to use buried pig boards. At first the electric fence was essential. Then the pups learned it wasn't any fun to cross. Now the wear the dummy collars that buzz when they reach about 8 feet of the fence. This is much more effective and cost effective. Just like I hope our border security will be. Even if it was more expensive I would have went this route due to its effectiveness.
