During the opening statement of his testimony before the House Oversight Committee, Trump's former personal attorney Michael Cohen said that "Trump is a racist, a conman and a cheat." How often has a sitting POTUS's character been assassinated during an official public proceeding in such blunt terms?

During the next 7.5 hours of testimony, during which Trump's party members on the committee had nearly half the time to dispute these serious allegations about the questionable character of the POTUS, all they could manage was a stunt that screamed what racism looked like in bygone eras in a misguided attempt to rebut Cohen's accusation that Trump is racist.

GOP Member Mark Meadows (a man who won office as a birther) propped up a friend of the Trump family, a black woman who the POTUS employs as an event planner for his administration, as proof that the POTUS is not a racist. She stood there silently, since the rules of the committee do not allow such "guests" authorization to speak.

Classic...throwback to the 60's and 70's when people denied being racists by saying their "best friends are black"... and I got a picture in my wallet to prove it....

Not one peep by any member of the GOP to deny the "conman and cheat" charges Cohen leveled at Trump.

lol..that was also a popular response to being called a racist back in the day...

personally, the correct question to stump me is: "why did your wife stop beating you?"

Some might say that an intelligent person would realize that those charges are less damaging.

Cohen is a proven liar.

Except when he disparages Trump.

is Trump an honest person?
would anyone describe him or his career as honorable, trustworthy?
did he not personally decide to employ all of these lowlife liars?

Just saying, this is the crowd we have put in power. Claiming that any single one of the crowd stands out as despicable is shortsighted.

The fish rots from the head down. How do we separate his handpicked crowd from his selection process once the unraveling begins?

I hope we are spared even worse. Impeachment proceedings could be devastating. The best we could hope for is these people were rogues trying to impress the uninformed boss.

To the detractors of President (Enter Name) Trump? Obama? All?

He didn't do that. And if he did, he didn't mean that. And if he did, you didn't understand it. And if you did, it's not a big deal. And if it is, others have done worse.

It wouldn't suprise me if any number of his family members end up facing RICO charges. Him too once he is no longer president.

Substitute any POTUS since Reagan for Trump in the above.

We live in an era where "honest" and "politician" have twain's on different paths.

Lots of damage? Really? How's the economy? Unemployment numbers? Tax rate? Are immigration issues further down the list of importance or closer to the top than before trump stepped in?

I'm not a big fan of who trump is, but to say he's caused lots of damage is nonsensical... If you were hoping the president would be yet another politician who would buddy up with other politicians at home and abroad, I can see why you're disappointed... If you were hoping the president would have a ton of f*cks to give about things like the shaky science of climate change, lgbtqrs rights, or trying to normalize the barbaric practices of Islam, I can see why you're disappointed...

The rest of us care about things like the economy, Unemployment, taxation...

Trump inherited a growing economy, and did help it generate some better quarters of GDP...but the numbers from last year were about the same as years past...he did not hit his goal of 3, or 4, even 5% GDP...he has applied his own brakes to momentum he deserves credit for, by imposing tariffs, starting trade wars and disrupting economic and political partnerships with our allies...

unemployment is at historic lows...credit due to Trump...but most of the jobs are low-paying...wages haven't kept up with the cost of living...what happened to the higher wages he promised when he enacted his tax cuts...

speaking of....have you filed your tax returns yet?

All those accomplishments you give him credit for are fool's gold: peel back the shiny surface and there is rot there...if they were real, the GOP would've run on them during the last elections and maintained control of Congress...

not to mention trillions of dollars in future debt....

why didn't Trump and the GOP campaign on: "look at the numbers...MAGA worked...let's celebrate"

because he said all of our problems were due to the illegals, the dangerous people invading from the south...
