I LOVE soup and don’t really have a favorite but in my Top 10 are;

Bird’s Nest - difficult to find a place that still offers this. Gotta order it if it’s available

Campbell’s Chicken Noodle - yes, from the can! Comfort food at it’s roots

French Onion - with an order of escargot and a Caesar’s salad, a great late night meal!

Miso soup with Asari clams - next time you eat sushi, order this as your last dish and you’ll see why. Miso soup with Nameko mushrooms is also very good.

New England Clam Chowder - ordered Manhattan CC once, quote The Raven: Nevermore

Ozoni (Japanese New Year’s soup) - wife makes her’s with a whole chicken. Supposed to be a once-a-year dish but we like it so much we often times make it in the late Spring or early Fall too

Pho - when done right and the soup is so rich from the hours and hours of boiling the bones, it is very hard to beat

Shark Fin - okay, okay, it’s not PC to serve this anymore but man, I miss those days when you could go into a Chinese restaurant and order it anytime. Throw in a shot of Scotch and the taste jumps up!

Steamed Duck Noodle - the noodles and the duck leg are the main course but the soup is the real reward

Tomato Bisque - I like “regular” tomato soup but the bisque upgrade is soooo much better. But, I rarely see it on menus so when it is, will order it

Properly made lobster bisque, home made from scratch matzoh-ball with home made chicken soup, chicken-semolina (Italian), cream of garlic, tomato, broccoli and potato, and split pea with barley, are among my favorites.

I was really torn between Pho and NE clam chowdah. Place in San Diego makes the absolute best Pho I have ever had. I get it with everything except tripe.

Chicken and sausage filé gumbo although I make 7 on that list including pho and a Schezuan hot and sour soup.

I'm not sure I'd consider chili or beef stew as a soup.

My initial rating for any Chinese restaurant is based on how well I like their hot and sour soup.
French onion soup is another on my hit parade list
For chicken noodle soup, I go with Lipton (those packets with the tiny noodles).
For canned soup, I go with the Progresso brand. Minestrone, vegetable, chicken and wild rice.

I'm not a fan of creamy soups, I prefer broth based soups. I don't usually make homemade soup but I do make a tasty chicken tortilla soup (in my opinion). After reading this thread, I might have make a batch of it tomorrow.

The closest I come to any seafood based soups is eating oyster crackers with my soup.

For me it's a toss up between really good ramen or gezpacho.

I do contest the soup classification for beef stew, but took it since it's on the list. After that one, definitely chowdah

Cream of crab soup. If done correct easily my favorite. Not sure if you non Atlantic coast fellas have these. Served all around the Chesapeake bay.

It’s not exactly like NE clam chowder but it’s thick and creamy.

Gray and rainy day all day so it's a good day for soup. Chicken tortilla soup simmering right now.

But I grabbed a couple 1" thick NY strips that I saw on sale so I'm be doing those for supper. The soup will be frozen eaten another day.
