A long time ago I hung them on a wall so it looked like they were floating. Hid the wires in the wall. Only issue was with playing them real loud and having heavy bass. It def looks nice especially if you got them on a side of a TV. Not sure if that's something you would consider.

You want the sound waves directed at your head level for the best sound. If you want them higher off the floor in a stand, you won't have to angle the speaker, just make sure it is at the right level, like if you sit down most of the time listening, then do that.

They would be simple enough to make, I bought mine a long time ago- made of wood, when I purchased the speakers. Interwebs would have multiple places to purchase.

They improved the sound greatly being off the floor and directed at my ear level, highly recommend doing this.

Not an audiofile but from what I understand, use the woofer and/or subwoofer is to help to transfer the bass to the floor and use the structure of the house (floors and walls) to help deliver the low frequencies.
