Have a pair of pretty good sized Klipsh speakers that are raised about 10''-12'' off the floor, angled up. Meaning the stands they are on are not level on top, but at an angle- but not so the speakers would fall off the stands. I have always had lab mix dogs, and didn't want them knocking over a higher platform stand, cuz they are spazzez!
You want the sound waves directed at your head level for the best sound. If you want them higher off the floor in a stand, you won't have to angle the speaker, just make sure it is at the right level, like if you sit down most of the time listening, then do that.
They would be simple enough to make, I bought mine a long time ago- made of wood, when I purchased the speakers. Interwebs would have multiple places to purchase.
They improved the sound greatly being off the floor and directed at my ear level, highly recommend doing this.
