Been there, done that, though no blood. But wait, it gets worse one day you may do that from the inside also. I did. That time I fell on my azz. I swear even the dogs were laughing.

Last 23+ hours of shop time was a nice reset of what a bad day is.

A 70ish year old woman was having a bad week. Her brother died earlier in the week, her car had an oil problem and her SIL was flying into town today. It was all too much activity and difficult to process. Two hours later, her engine started billowing smoke. That is a bad and expensive day.

Different dude, probably late 20s early 30s needed a ride to his office. During his transport he shared he just moved to Green Bay from Florida. Who would do that?

He, his wife and 6 month old child will be closer to his wife's family which makes her happy.
That, and they have no home left as it was on Ft. Myers Beach. Lost everything.

I'll take my low back pain and low amount of duration and quality of sleep.

Thank you God for the perspective.

Yep... some days I have to take a step back and remind myself that I've got it good. Too blessed to be stressed.

Good morning everyone. Every day I wake up is a blessing. The day I don't will be a greater blessing.

Came home to a flooded basement. Only real casualty was my computer monitor power supply. I'm pretty good about making sure plugs and stuff are off the ground, but that one was not.

I keep a spare sump pump ready to go already with the pvc pipe connected all I have to do is loosen a hose clamp on the rubber connector and it's done.

So I did that and the spare wouldn't switch on reliably. It would do it for 3-5 cycles then stop. Would work again if I jiggled it but that's not gonna work. Had a float switch in a box on a shelf for probably 10 years so I pulled that out and put it on the backup pump but the float switches at a higher water level than the native pump switch so if the pump switch doesn't close, the secondary float switch won't do chit. Pulled it out to open up the switch box to jumper it to always closed but then tore the gasket when I opened it.

So I had to run back out to Menards and buy a new one. Gonna try to get new switches for the first two but not today. Still got a bunch of other chit to do and need to go to bed.

The outside is eerily quiet and still outside... no breeze. Looking to the east is gray skies... some precipitation is on the horizon. Temps are on the borderline of rain and/or snow. Forecast says an inch or two if its snow tonight but I'm guessing it will be a mix of cold rain, topped off with a glaze of ice then some and snow.

Ordered a new hood latch for my son's car. Probably go down to visit Burt, my wizard friend, at his machine shop/barn/garage this weekend to to replace it and shoot the $hit with him for a couple hours and see what projects he's working on this week.

Tentatively accepted the job offer for the IT position with the contractor tied into the local schools and townships and stuff. It hinges on them landing the contracts for the upcoming year, should happen this coming week. Nothing set in stone yet, but fingers crossed - prolly 80% a done deal, 20% not happening. I don't really like having things hinge on a contract basis but since I'm a greenhorn in professional IT area, it's a foot in the door and added experience to the resume.

Other iron in the fire is another manufacturing engineering gig. It sounds like it might be a high maintenance/stressful job. They've contacted my references (good sign), and asked me about what I'd like for a salary and stuff (good sign). It's a backup plan but I'd rather transition into doing the IT thing even though the engineering gig would likely pay more.

Job satisfaction and work/family life is something that is hard to put a number on but one that I've grown to appreciate. Given the choice, I'd pick a personal fulfilling job that pays less over a job that pays more at the expense of my sanity.
