Otis Redding - Live in Europe
Back in the ‘70s I had the cassette of this and played it constantly in my Road Runner.

WAR - The World is a Ghetto
A h.s. fave. Spent many hours listening to this as well as “All Day Music” on the weekends.

Daryl Hall & John Oates
Comp Disc 3, 1985 to 2004 of my favorites, including their performance with Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin of the Temptations.

Blackbyrds - Greatest Hits
Most will only remember “Walking in Rhythm” but they were much more than that. Lotta funky sounds from this, now, mostly forgotten group.

Little Feat - July 1, 1978 - Nagoya-shi, Kokaido, Nagoya, Japan

Thirteen days later on their way back to the Mainland, I would see them at Andrew’s Amphitheater.

Less than a year later, Lowell George, at the age of 34, would die due to a heart attack. 😢

Pat Metheny Trio - 99 -> 00

I’ve never really thought about who my favorite jazz guitarists are but fo’ sure Pat would be on the list. Purdy sure he’d be in the Top 3.

Off the top of my head and in no particular order:

Metheny
Joe Pass
Wes Montgomery
John McLaughlin
Gabor Szabo
George Benson - before he turned pop
John Abercrombie
Larry Carlton
Lee Ritenour
Earl Klugh

Although they’re great guitarists, for whatever reasons, just never got into Charlie Christian, Django Reinhardt, Al DiMeola, Bill Connors, or Larry Coryell.

So much music, so little time.

The Wailers - Catch a Fire (Jamaican version)

One of the coolest album jackets, the “Zippo”. It actually was hinged to simulate a Zippo lighter. The US version was released as “Bob Marley and The Wailers” and had a different cover - Bob smoking a big doobie.

Time for more reggae:

A mixed disc of older reggae and ska artists: Desmond Dekker, Heptones, Culture, Jacob Miller, Peter Tosh, Melodians, Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown, etc.

During my retail record store “career” (…total of 9 years…) I was lucky and worked with a couple of guys that really helped me expand my horizons. For a teenager / 20-something, I probably was exposed / listened to a much wider array of genres than most. But still, I know there are many more great jazz artists out there.

My exposure to music is from my family. Its all over the place. I just like good music no matter what it is.

Pretty much the same for me although at my very root, blues-based rock is at my core. But, as a Gemini, I need to have variety because, at some point, I’mma gonna get bored of listening to the same genre over and over. I’mma also an old-school guitar god worshipper so those artists (…Clapton, Beck, Allman, George, Santana, Buchanan, Green, etc….) have a larger piece of my heart.

Los Lobos - a comp disc set of mostly cover songs by the boys out of East LA. A few of the artists they cover include Jimi Hendrix, the Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, CCR, Cream, Neil Young, the Temptations, Marvin Gaye and of course Ritchie Valens. I really enjoy their excursions outside of their own songs.

I'm so thankful they recorded the show in video. Watching it still gives me goosebumps. "3 parts original, 1 part inevitable". Seeing father and son jam da **** out...on one of the finest live songs of theirs in their catalog...with even smiles from Alex! If you haven't seen the whole concert...get it and crank it up.
