Put in one 60 ft row of Kennebec potatoes & three 60 ft rows of Yukon Gold

Turns out the tiller works a lot better when the wheels are bolted to the axle and the depth gauge is adjusted properly.

Tired. Gonna rest a few minutes and have a sammich.

When they curl into a circle, it's time to harvest the scapes. Cut them all the way down to about where the scape emerged
The scapes won't all grow at the same rate, so you'll need to harvest multiple times.
If you wait too long, a scape will start to straighten out and reach to the sky in preparation for flowering. They will get more fibrous and won't be as tender.
There are some good videos on how to harvest scapes on YouTube.

Put in three 30 ft rows of onions (1 yellow, 1 white, 1 red)

Downpour going on right now, so don't have to water the gardens...

Well we got the last of it planted, other than the second set of corn which will be planted mid June.

This is, by far, the most we've ever done in our four yrs here.

Won't bore you guys wiff da numbahs--but it took 17 days working on and off, whenever we could get to it.

Crazy...

My tomatoes look amazing this year. Only have 6 plants but the 3 early ones are very dark green and very bushy. Gonna likely do well if I take good care of them

A Corona brand "diamond hoe". Shaped like a diamond, and sharp on all edges. Did pretty good weeding the corn.

I'll add, 'round here, the hills have eyes too.8-[

Got the land plowed for the second set of corn. Tilled it good--made it into powder. Was planning for June 10th for the second set. (Put 1st set in May 10th)

But it looks like the 1st through 5th it's gonna be hot and no rain, followed by rain the 6th through 10th.

Jake said to give it a day or two with no rain bf planting corn.

Well, I don't want to til through mud and I'd rather plant a little early then a little late. So that's my reasoning for planting early. Still gonna be an August harvest for the second set.

First set of corn is looking pretty good. I'd say after the rains, later in the week, it will be ready for da nitro.

I’d plant ahead of the rain as well. I’ve just had better luck getting good stands of crops if they don’t immediately get pounded by rain. What can happen is seed rot and also the ground can get hard and the seedlings get stuck trying to emerge

If you suspect the ground getting hard you can irrigate and minimize any real problems. Obviously if you get a massive rain and things are actually gonna start rotting in the ground not much can be done

You’ll have a lot less problems with seed rot if the weather is warm (like it is now)

Those are just a couple reasons to better explain why I prefer corn to be in the ground 24 hours with no rainfall

Beans for example germinate much faster so they likely have less chance of rotting. I have had trouble with ground getting hard and they have trouble pushing through
