Good Sunday Mother's Day Morning to All!

Back'atcha Cheno.

Without taking my shoes off or dropping my pants, I can count to 9.75 due to a home improvement project many years ago that resulted in losing nearly half a thumb. It wasn't lost forever. Maybe I should say it was "misplaced" since it was found the next day in the neighbor's basement where I was using the table saw.

I still have a slice of the wood trim I was cutting on my key chain as a reminder to not disable safety guards on table saws. That is one day that would (or is it wood?) have been a positive thing... put down the wood and drink a beer. Doing so might have saved a body part.

Neighbor: Want a beer?
Me: Let me rip this piece of wood first, then I'll have a beer.

Zing! Part of my thumb launches over my shoulder and off to the ER we go.

Early Sunday morning, rain has passed and we have clear skies here in north central MA. Currently a bit cool in the mid 50° F but supposed to warm up to the mid 60's.

Happy Mother's day to all the Mothers out there.

Seven NINE!

When the thum was found, did he give it back to you?
Did you get a displaced Thumbs Up?
Do you still have severed appendage in a bottle?

I have the full compliment of fingers and toes.

If I strip nekkid, I can count to 20 and a half.

Yes neighbor found it and gave it too me in a ziplock bag. I maybe wrong but I think a day old 25% of a thumb is kinda worthless. I thought about putting in a jar of formaldehyde but that would be creepy. (had to Google the spelling of formaldehyde to preserve body parts... if I'm not heard from again, the cops took me in and will dig in the yard looking for body parts. I might be sharing a cell with JonSie... I'll tell him the Cbid folks say Hi).

Hospital had a bunch of questions to ask me.

Them: Was it a work related injury?
Me: Nope.
Them: Where did it happen?
Me: {address redacted} Neighbor's walk out basement.
Them: Does the neighbor have insurance?
Me: I would guess they do. Isn't that part of owning a house? What's with the questions?
Them: Are you looking to file an insurance claim?
Me: I didn't know there was such a thing so answer is nope. When you're done with the paperwork, can you just fix what's left of the thumb?

Had to undergo a couple thumb surgeries. It was opened up like a banana, they lopped off some more bone to get to good structure. Stitched the skin back together and took a skin graft off my arm to top off the tip of the appendage. The skin graft took just fine after two tries. Now I have a thumb that grows hair out the tip.

Positive: it's one less fingernail to trim.
Negative: if I commit a crime, I have a rather unique thumb print.

Positive: When my kids were young and asked why I had a short thumb, I would tell them that's what happens when you pick your nose.

Quality parenting.

When MP3 was little, we'd be driving along and we'd see a critter splatted on the road.

MP3: What happened to the squirrel?
8: He's dead.
MP3: Why?
8: He didn't listen to his parents.

He's only got a few more years of therapy left, and he'll be somewhat normalish again.

In my late teens I worked a few years in golf course maintenance. One year we completely tore out and redid all the greens. We had a big machine that hooked to the drive on a tractor to tear up the turf. One day one of my coworkers was engaging the chain drive and got his gloved hand caught in it. Popped his index finger right off at the second knuckle. I helped him take off the glove and 2" of bloody finger plopped out. We grabbed it and took him to the hospital.

Never saw him again but I heard he got a big settlement from insurance.

Good Monday Morning to All! It's a wet 68° on the way to 76° today with possible heavy rain.

I might get to a city hearing this evening. Our city is trying to shove a roundabout into an intersection at the end of the old town main street. The cost is $3.7 million that everyone knows will ballon in cost, take property and cause more traffic problems. It's being labeled a traffic calming project, but it's just to get drivers to slow down, stop and spend money with local businesses.

I like roundabouts, but the street they are attempting to "calm" is fed from a bridge across the Savannah River to downtown Augusta. Across the river are several hospitals, medical business and other employers for many residents of our town. All they are going to do is increase congestion and put more pressure on all the side streets that bypass downtown.

The speed limit on the street is already 30MPH.

Their traffic study claims the roundabout will make traffic safer, but the majority of accidents are rear ends, i.e., failed to yield right of way and following too closely because most traffic is passing through, not shoppers.

LOL I'm a fan of roundabouts also when sited correctly. They move traffic without stopping in many areas but cause confusion in others where timid drivers fail to enter quickly causing backups sometimes.

Our city council has just decided to abandon one that was already in the early stages of work and stands to lose $31M that the Feds were on the hook for because a few very wealthy homeowners in that area objected.

Wow, $31 million! Just for a roundabout? Expensive property easements?

A newly elected city councilman, a democrat I voted for, thinks the cost is going to be more like $18 million, a mind numbing amount. 😣

Old money has connections.

Land in north Scottsdale goes in the millions per acre. The $31M was only the fed part. Total cost was expected to be more like twice that.

Holy crap what a soccer game yesterday. Won 17-3, Gavin got a hat trick as well. Then I grabbed flowers for all the kids on the team to give to their Mom's for Mother's Day after the game.
