Without taking my shoes off or dropping my pants, I can count to 9.75 due to a home improvement project many years ago that resulted in losing nearly half a thumb. It wasn't lost forever. Maybe I should say it was "misplaced" since it was found the next day in the neighbor's basement where I was using the table saw.

I still have a slice of the wood trim I was cutting on my key chain as a reminder to not disable safety guards on table saws. That is one day that would (or is it wood?) have been a positive thing... put down the wood and drink a beer. Doing so might have saved a body part.

Neighbor: Want a beer?
Me: Let me rip this piece of wood first, then I'll have a beer.

Zing! Part of my thumb launches over my shoulder and off to the ER we go.

Early Sunday morning, rain has passed and we have clear skies here in north central MA. Currently a bit cool in the mid 50° F but supposed to warm up to the mid 60's.

I might get to a city hearing this evening. Our city is trying to shove a roundabout into an intersection at the end of the old town main street. The cost is $3.7 million that everyone knows will ballon in cost, take property and cause more traffic problems. It's being labeled a traffic calming project, but it's just to get drivers to slow down, stop and spend money with local businesses.

I like roundabouts, but the street they are attempting to "calm" is fed from a bridge across the Savannah River to downtown Augusta. Across the river are several hospitals, medical business and other employers for many residents of our town. All they are going to do is increase congestion and put more pressure on all the side streets that bypass downtown.

The speed limit on the street is already 30MPH.

Their traffic study claims the roundabout will make traffic safer, but the majority of accidents are rear ends, i.e., failed to yield right of way and following too closely because most traffic is passing through, not shoppers.

LOL I'm a fan of roundabouts also when sited correctly. They move traffic without stopping in many areas but cause confusion in others where timid drivers fail to enter quickly causing backups sometimes.

Our city council has just decided to abandon one that was already in the early stages of work and stands to lose $31M that the Feds were on the hook for because a few very wealthy homeowners in that area objected.
