I've heard that durian is actually pretty good in the taste department, texture is bizarre but it's true detractor is the exceptionally foul odor.

Thats what I heard too. But when I tried it the smell was overwhelming and affected the taste. Plus it looks like you are eating a brain and the texture is strange.

All said, I'm glad I tried it, I constantly saw them in the grocery store and wondered what they were.
