Bring it inside and heat it up by the woodstove--soften that layer of fat under the skin.

That young fellow looks pleased.

20. I just guessing, so they know it's not a dog. I've heard tell.

Where was he when I needed him this weekend. I was out in the backyard cleaning out one of my sheds and, after moving a box I was surprised to find a dead racoon. Old dead. Cardboard. So I continued to clean and pushed aside some papers and what's staring at me eye to eye, a live racoon. So I call the animal control to have her evicted and their response was that they would remove the dead one but wouldn't deal with the live one. So I ask the guy on the phone what would happen if I just shot it and, in his best PETA voice says, "It's a felony". I asked him how much time I would have to serve to which he responded "This is no time to kid around". I responded in my best "Your two seconds from the most embarassing moment of your life" voice, "Does it sound like I'm kidding"? He ultimately sent a guy out who wouldn't go into the shed without me and he snatched the dead one up with his loop-on-a-rope. I told him about my conversation and his advice was to not call next time and shoot the damn thing. Now he tells me. It resolved itself by Sunday. I guess I disturbed the nest (there ended up being 3, a mom and two kids) so badly that they found lodging elsewhere. I will be getting a Gamo whisper in the near future though.

^ It's disappointing that you have a system in place that discourages honesty.

We never had possums here until the late-'70's--at least nobody ever saw one. All we had was raccoons. And then, all of a sudden, all we had was possums.
I prefer the raccoon to the possum, they are better tasting, not so aggressive when they get inside the house, and generally make a better pet that compares favorably with the common house pig.
