Must have felt as if the weight of the world had been lifted from you and that cigar was pure Heaven. All was right with the world again. The added pleasure of a really good cigar (that you knew you could afford again) gave you the pause to reflect, and made the experience that much better. I would have done the same thing.

Though I've never paid $32 for a cigar before, I have to agree with Slim on this one. It isnt always about paying $32 for a rolled up bunch of dead leaves. It is also about rewarding yourself for triumphing over a given challenge. Nothing compliments the celebration better than a good cigar.

So let me see if I understand.

It sounds like that most of you would only purchase this pricey of a cigar in times of celebration.

SLIM..im not picking....but what the hell are you doing going on vacation? You just got a new job,and you've been unemployed for the last 10 months.

I'd like to know Mydsooner why you are trying to bust Slims balls here. If the man wants to buy an expensive cigar and go on vacation what is the big deal.

As far as the cigar question-I wouldn't buy a $32 on a regular basis. But I might be inclined to do so every once in awhile to treat myself.

well, i'll say this: when social security finally gets off its collective duff and i get the big ol' retro check and a ton of the world's weight in worry is lifted off my shoulders? i'm going to go out and get the biggest, most expensive, stinkiest cigar i can find, and i'm going to luxuuuuuuuuuuriate in it! 🙂

probably will just be la aurora preferido tubo, but hey, $15 seems like $1500 to me right now! 🙂

mydsooner --- the wife and I won a timeshare, and this vacation was set up before I lost my last job ...

... and my new employer was kind enough to honor the commitment I had already arranged, and have the job waiting for me when I returned.

In fact, he made sure that I knew the job was mine (that is why he told me that Friday before I left), becasue he told me he wanted me to have a relaxing and stress free time while I was there, and to spend a little more money than we had planned if we wnated to ... knowing that I would be coming back to a great job!

Are you guys Joking? You'd need to put a gun to my head and a crowbar to my wallet to get me to pay more than $10-15 a stick for a cigar. One of my favorite smokes that ain't an ISOM is a Stogie (house brand I found in SF) they are $13.95 a stick and it pisses me off every time I have to order 10 more of them...

I get real deal Cohiba ISOM's for $10 a stick for heavens sake. Partagas too... although my brother paid $25 a stick for some PSD3's in Vancouver for me. I told him he was nuts.

Now... If I was Bill Gates? Hell yes I would. I ain't poor by any stretch of the imagination, but I have issues with spending money frivilously.

Who am I kidding? Yeah, I probably would.

slim,
he sounds like a great boss to work for. I think how much money you have make a great deal of how much you are willing to spend on a cigar (or anything in that matter)
I once seen a youngster in hong Kong smoke an ISOM vintage Dunhill (in a red tubo) that was sold for 160 US dollar. Now $160 is one thing in US but when a college fresh grad in HK only make between 600-800 a month if they were luckly enought to find a job.

I have no idea who the youngster is or what does he do for a living but I heard from the clerk @ the store that this is nothing espeicall as this guy come in a few times every week and always smoke a few very expenisve cigars and most of the time only smoke half of it and left........

What do you think about that?

well, let me tell ya a little story...I was in one of my favorite cigar shops in NYC and they has two Padron Milleniem left in the beautiful humidor that they came in in 2000. The cigars were in fact $32.00 ea BUT you got a raffle ticket for each cigar purchased to win the humidor once all the cigars were sold.

Well i bought the last two and several days later I received a call from the shop telling me I had won the Humidor. I have yet to try the cigar BUT IN THIS CASE it WAS worth the investment

Yes, there are cigars that are worth $32. And yes, I will very occasionally spend that much on a cigar.

No, it's too extravagant for my taste.

Maybe, when I was younger, but I'm with Shawn (MACS) on this one.

My conscience wouldn't allow me to enjoy it.

All the power to you Slim.

if i was on vacation, i do not see anything wrong with spending $32 on a cigar.
think about it like this.
that cigar probably lasted slim an hour.
now what else can you do, that you enjoy, in a resort town, and not spend at least $32. dollars. and have it last an hour.
just my thoughts.

32 is nothing for a great memory. Hasn't anyone ever spent 32 bucks drinking in a bar? I probably did it hundreds of times when I was in my early twenties. Nothing to show for it but a hangover, and sometimes didn't even remember the previous night. I was at the race-ino last week with a buddy. . . . we went to leave, and he said, "wait, I've got $40 left. . " he put both twenties in a machine, and 90 seconds later, we left. . . . . I'll take my girlfriend to the strip club, and between two of us, easily blow $100 on drinks, tips, lap dances and darts. . . . There are many other ways people will blow $30 without even thinking twice. Anyone smoke cigarettes? In NY, they're 5 bucks a pack. I could spend less money smoking 1 thirty dollar cigar a week, than someone who smokes a pack of Marlboro's a day.
So, I wouldn't make a habit of $30 cigars, but I would certainly enjoy one on occasion if the situation were right.

Where are we? I can think of a couple countries I've been to that $32 bucks would net some "all night" fun...
