You've been warned to ignore this thread, so don't blame me if you don't like it.

It's another thread about overbidding (yeah, yeah, I know).

But I just couldn't help myself.

The current high bid is almost 50% over everyday retail:

And it's not even a "hard to find" cigar.

I Agree.

For that price, could have had a box of some really good cigars, instead of seconds. LOL

I would have to disagree on the overbidders being good for us. Sure it is good for C-bid but bad for us, as more and more people join this site and overbid, there will be no reason for us to come here, if we can get the same things offered at auction cheaper at retail prices, then why by at auction. I see alot of auctons where the price is higher than what my local sells for, and it keeps me from bidding.

Jdllizard --- that's why they are called auctions.

As I have said before, if it wasn't for the overbidders, this site would not exist. I've talked several times over the years with Keith and Gonz ... and there are more times than not that they barely break even on the lots that are won here (many times even losing money on individual wins), and it's only the sheer volume of the daily offerings that keep this auction site alive.

Overbidding is all relative to how easy it is for you to find what you are bidding on, how badly you want it, the price you are willing to pay for it, the time and trouble you want to spend on searching the internet looking for it ... etc.

Cigabid has been around for many years now ... and I doubt very seriously that people are going to just 'up and stop' bidding ... when there is always the thrill and always that chance that you my just might get lucky with that one 'lowball' that you throw out there.

http://www.cigarbid.com/auction/lot.cfm?lotID=192367  Current winning bid is $9.00 over CI price. 3 weeks ago I won same item for $100.00 less. I'd rather be lucky than good.

I belive as the good deals dry up so will the regulars that bid here. There will always be others that come and bid, and bid high and they are the ones that will keep the site going. But I belive that eventually the bargains will be so few and far between that it will just be easier to buy off of CI.

John L

But I could be wrong.

Probably some truth to that John, but here in California, CI prices are damn good. Tobacco tax here is outrageous.

LGC Wavell is $5.80 for Cal Resident

LGC Wavell is $3.85 for non-resident

CI price is $19.00/5pk or $3.80 each & $66.95/box or $2.678 each. So for me it's a win/win deal.

People would leave quicker due to the "Overbidding threads" , and not just the overbidders themselves, because it clogs up the Forum.

I have seen hundreds more Overbidder threads than I have cigar Reviews.....which will always hurt CBid forums....UNTIL THEY GET "STICKY" THREADS. C'Mon CBid!

I know numerous people who have stopped posting, but not bidding. They stop posting cause there is rarely cigar-talk around here. Politics, boobs, and overbidders......sounds like the Leaf to me....hmmmmm.

The thing that always baffles me is that the people who post the overbidding threads think they will make the difference, or teach someone a lesson. More than likely, the person who put in the large bid.....DOESN'T even frequent the forums.

I've been around for s few months now & I never ever overbid, except maybe once cause I didn't know how much the cigars would cost me if I bought a box or 5 pack. I pick up great deals here. I am also patient as hell cause I know they will be back soon & I might get lucky this time. I budget my cigar purchases & now have more cigars per month because of C-bid.

I don't have a problem except for the fact that as a voracious smoker & collector, my budget never meets my "wants". I don't care if I had a couple grand a month to drop on cigars, that would still not be enough. I suspect that many of you are the same way.

If there was just cigar talk, (by your deffinition), then this forum would never move and it would deffinately dissolve. What is going to keep me away eventually is the rudeness shown towards new guys by some of the people who have been around here for awhile (seen it several times since I found this site). Relax, enjoy the awesome deals why they last and come on down here with the rest of us, you might just have fun. I'll beat this dead horse all night long if the thread keeps my interest.

John L has a point. I'm an FOG veteran in my job. When I was a rookie, I was a bit stunned at how rude some veterans & buyers could be. It was simply because they had traveled the same road years ago & didn't have the patience to traverse it once again with the dumb rookies. I accepted this & learned the ropes in my own way.

My point is, if you open a thread & people are talking about something you have hashed over a couple dozen times already, then close the thread without posting & move on to the next one.

I am still new enough to reason with people about the virtues of C-bid. When I weary of it, I will ignore the discussion.

Peace 🙂

I am shocked . . . SHOCKED to learn there is overbidding going on at this site!

Sigh!!...............I've said it numerous times before, and I'll say it again.....IMO, there is no "overbid." An "overbid" is a theoretical construct in an auction. An auction cannot occur unless two or more people want the same thing. When I bid, I am bidding to acquire that particular lot. I will bid up to what that lot is worth to ME, and me only. It may not be worth it to anyone else (otherwise I wouldn't win the bid), but it is to me. If I could have gotten it for less money, if I could have bought it at retail for less, if what I am willing to bid is considered impaired judgement by others, all are irrevelant to ME. I acquired what I wanted at the price I was willing to pay; therefore, I cannot have overbid from MY viewpoint, I bid exactly the right amount (my maximum price), and I was successful. The concept of "overbidding" exist only in the viewpoint of others (who either did not win the bid, or did not bid at all, but simply observed} and will not influence me the next time I bid, up to the maximum I am willing to pay.

Whew..........sorry to get so long-winded but to me whatever someone is willing to pay, even if it is far beyond what I would offer for the same lot, is not an overbid for THEM. If their maximum bid wins then they have won the lot at THEIR price. Fundamental rules/definition of an auction, I fear. Just my thoughts................

Overbidders or not...I still save 50-70% off retail here over California prices.
