This is George, my daily herfing bud. He's a 8 year old male English Mastiff. 250 lbs., 34" at the withers. Gentle as a lamb, but has the roar of a lion, lol.

considering an English Mastiff for our next dog. How are the Mastiffs with young kids?

We have a yellow Lab that is starting to show his age. Damn, that is going to be a hard day when the time comes .....

I have a bullmastiff. She's no were near this big. However she is very strong, I can't imagine how strong a big boy like this is! I would not recommend a mastiff for small children. Not that they are mean dogs, but they will knock a kid down just wanting to play.

George is the most laid back dog that I have ever met. I remember sitting on dpnewell's front porch and a car turned around to ask what type of dog he is.

^Yes, this happens a couple times a day. Folk will stop in the middle of traffic, roll down their window and start asking questions. Getting to the point where I'm about ready to put up a sign. "He's an English Mastiff, he weights 250 lbs, he's usually very gentle, BUT I DON'T THINK HE LIKES YOU!!" LMAO.

#2 Jojoc,
Very gentle, but not good with little kids. They crave affection and physical contact, so they tend to knock over kids without meaning to.

Also, very short life span. Six to ten years on average. George is only seven and his muzzle is almost all gray.

#7 Iurox,
Have a confession. After jabbing you about your new pup, our other dog is a Pomeranian. I refer to her as "the rat dog".

Shoot - he's only as big as one of Pacman's legs (from what I hear).

Nice looking pup.

Rest In Peace, big boy. Smoking without you just isn't the same. May you run free in warm meadows, besides streams of cool water.

Sorry for your loss :(

Odd looking back at this, my bullmastiff pass away the month after this thread was started. I still miss her too.
