I am firmly in favor of screening gun buyers and having all guns registered!!!! Sort of goes against my Republican beliefs, but if they can just stop one nut from getting a gun then it is worth my registering my guns! Charlie

When the current laws regarding gun ownership are enforced, I will be in favor of further improvements. Until then, new laws are simply a political attempt to please the masses (i.e. voters). It is MUCH more popular for a politician to initiate a new bill and take credit for it than it would be to simply enforce existing rules. Yet, enforcing the existing laws would produce the same results and cost the taxpayers nothing.

Sorry,registration of firearms IS the first step towards confiscation.Enforcement of current laws and tough prosecution IS the only answer.To believe otherwise is extremely nieve.

A better model might be Australia.First registration,then confiscation and then criminal use of firearms dramatically increases.Legalized consealed carry laws are the way to go people.States that have liberalized their CC laws have seen a decrease in violent crime and not just gun crimes mind you.

One more point how many times in the media do you here of ordiary citizens stopping a crime in prgress because they were armed? NONE.But something like 200,000 crimes are stopped every year by ordinary armed citizens. Next your goimg to cry about the children harmed by accidental shootings. People these accidents are caused for the most part by kids that were not educated about firearms.The best way to keep your kids safe is to educate them about safe use or at the very least the dangers of firearms and what to do if they find one.

Gun Control:
The Second Amendment

by Danny Brooks

The Second Amendment to the Constitution plainly states "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." However, to hear the left-wing media, guns are bad. Guns kill people. Only the police and the military should have guns. Guns need to be kept away from law-abiding citizens "for the sake of the children."

Whenever some lunatic shoots a bunch of his coworkers, they blame the guns. Whenever sociopath teenagers kill their classmates, they blame the guns. Whenever a child finds a loaded gun and kills himself or someone else, they blame the guns.

There are currently more than 20,000 gun laws on the books. It is becoming harder and harder for the average citizen to legally purchase a gun for self defense. But for some reason, this hasn't deterred criminals from buying guns on the streets and using them in crimes. This is probably because a criminal is not going to walk into a gun shop, submit to a federal background investigation, and wait seven days. Criminals have this nasty little habit of ignoring and breaking the laws. They also tend to commit crimes, hence their label "criminals". There are some facts that the liberal media doesn't like for ordinary citizens to know.

For example, guns are used over 7,000 times every day to prevent crimes in this country. In 98% of these cases, the gun is never even discharged. Simply brandishing the weapon will cause most cowards to run like little rabbits. In the majority of the 2% of cases in which a gun is fired, there are only warning shots taken to either frighten the attacker away or convince him to wait for the police.

Speaking of the police, are you aware that there have been several lawsuits in which the police did not show up to protect someone when an unarmed citizen was being attacked; and, that each and every case had the same outcome - THE POLICE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PROTECTING INDIVIDUAL CITIZENS, only protecting the population at large? Think about that the next time someone tries to convince you to either not buy a gun; or, take your gun to a government buy-back program.

Statistically, it would take over 80,000 handguns to save one life and there are over 80,000,000 gun owners in this country right now. That's because the majority of the handguns in this country are not used in homicides. And as far as the left-wing media's pleas and cries for people who must have one of those awful, dreadful guns to at least store the ammunition separately and use a trigger lock, ask your self one question - "If I'm attacked, while my attacker wait for me to:

A) call the police and then stand in a corner until they arrive to arrest him;

B) unlock my gun for a safe;

C) unlock the trigger lock;

D) go to another location to get the ammunition; and

E) load the gun?" Or will he simply shoot you?

If you own a gun and have children, please be responsible and explain to your children that guns are not toys and they can hurt, cripple, or kill people. When your children get older, take them to a firing range and let them learn the proper way to handle a gun and teach them to respect it as well. Keep it out of their reach, yet close enough to you so that you can get to it in case of an emergency. Keep it loaded because most burglars are not going to give you time to load your gun. An unloaded gun is only useful if the attacker doesn't realize it and runs away (assuming he's unarmed, in which case you're probably dead) or if you can get close enough to pistol-whip him with it. Basically, just use common sense when cleaning, storing, and target shooting with you gun.

Fortunately, North Carolina has a concealed carry law in which gun owners can take a gun safety class, pay a fee, and get a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Statistics have proven time and time again that crime rates are lower in areas in which the possibility exists that citizens may be armed. The converse is true in areas in which regulations prevent citizens from legally carrying concealed weapons. If you were a burglar, which person would you target - the person who "may" have a concealed weapon or the one who you knew for sure would "definitely not" have a concealed weapon? And most importantly, don't be swayed by the gun grabbers out there who point to false and nonexistent studies to prove their points.

Yes, guns do kill people. But only with human intervention. I've never heard of a single case in which a gun has jumped out of a case at a gun shop, loaded itself, and fired at someone. If kids play with guns, then they or someone else will likely get shot. If you drop a loaded gun, then you or someone else will likely get shot. If you clean a loaded gun while drinking, then you or someone else will likely get shot.

When used properly, a gun can save your life and the lives of your loved ones. Owning a gun is not a privilege, it is a right. It is guaranteed by the Second Amendment to our Constitution. Don't take it for granted. In this past century, more than 170 million citizens were killed by their own governments. The fact that our government has been trying for years to disarm us should scare the hell out of you. Remember, a person with a gun is a citizen; a person without a gun is a subject. Which would you rather be?

Boy that was stupid of me...
That being said IN MY OPINION, The Second Amendment guarentees me as an AMERICAN the right to bear ARMS! That means I can buy, own, use anything I damn well please.
It does NOT say "...the right to bear SMALL arms or semi-auto only" I does NOT say that I can not own a machine gun/gattling gun, 50 BMG, etc. Any law written (some 2000) are illegal, and unconstitutional.

I may not need a Uzi but if I want one NOBODY should have the right to tell me I can't.

Too many politicians cave to the few whiners out there.
Its obvious that the squeaky wheel gets oiled.

Guns don't kill people nor do bullets, but I sure as hell will if anybody thinks they can take something of mine. I live in TEXAS and here we are allowed to kill anybody that is even attempting to take our ****. We can kill them if they are running away with our ****.

If guns kill people then a Spoon is responsible for making Rosie O'Donnel Fat!
She is very outspoken against guns and yet she has an ARMED body guard. She is a hypocrte and so are many other Hollywood celebs that say guns should be outlawed and yet they have armed body guards.

Gun laws DO NOTHING to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. They can get them on any street corner.
The criminals are out there laughing at us because of that.

Gun registration has ALWAYS led to confiscation. It's nobodys business if I own or what I own. This is AMERICA damn it!!

Ok, how was that for MY opinion? I'm sure I'll post more a bit later after my blood pressure goes down.

haven't been on for a while....I feel that not everyone had the right to carry concealed...If I had to go through the extensive training to carry my gun on duty, then Joe Citizen had better go through a extensive background (IMHO that means NO previous arrests, whether they are misd or felony..ARRESTS, not convictions...I could care less if they were convicted or not (which doesn't mean squat because of plea bargains between lawyers) and also very extensive training...I feel that only a small group of law abiding citizens should be able to carry...I will find out where I read this but did you know that there has never been any police officer shot by a citizen legally carrying a firearm concealed?..Ill find the source if anyone is interested...I don't believe `ANYONE should be able to carry...That's ludicrous (sp?)...I do believe I should have the right (since I am a law-abiding citizen with no criminal history) to defend my family and property by having handguns in my home...There are local ordinances in many towns now (which I think is a good idea actually and is simple common sense) that says if you do have firearms in your home and have children residing there or visit, you should have them secured and unaccessible during that time....excellent idea...there are a lot of stupid people who happen to own guns and keep them in places such as between their mattress and in a desk drawer (which I have no problem with if children never visit your home, for example)...I keep mine secured in a heavy duty working clock-radio safe, which I can access in a matter of seconds if needed by using a five digit code on the keypad...It would be nearly impossible for anyone much less a child to access them...Excellent item and worth every penny!...My two cents...Hopefully I can get my computer at home to work!...KC

First off, go here...

http://www.keepandbeararms.com/information/XcIBViewItem.asp?ID=2823

And I would agree that Mr. & Mrs. Repeat Offender should not be entitled to carry, but they are criminals anyway and would not obey the law so they would carry regardless of any unconstitutional law.

Sorry Rookie, but it's already illegal for felons to own firearms much less get a CCW permit. Furthermore for you to suggest that someone *arrested* but not even convicted of a mist. no less is,to use your own word ludicrous(sp? LOL). "I will find out where I read this but did you know that there has never been any police officer shot by a citizen legally carrying a firearm concealed." EXACTLY! funny how that happens. Just how many of those citizens have had B*ll sh*t Mist. arrests or even covictions for that matter. Ya know I love ya man but your argumment even flies in the face of what your supposed to be all about. To serve and protect citizens! Hey you guys can't do it all(and for the most part you guys do a good job) but it's our *right* as citizens of the U.S. to be able to protect ourselves. Whether it be from criminals, an overly oppressive government or for that matter an over zealous police officer(we all know those don't exist don't we, LOL). Now quit smokin' so many cigars on the taxpayers dime and get yourself a new PC. LOL. PS nice to hear from you again,how was your trip out here to Cali? Did you make it over to Hi Time Wine and Tobacco?

decasere, "That was about racial hatred not gun controll, stop for a moment and think for yourself will you!!!!!" Actually decasere, your statment in itself was probably one of the most nieve(sp) statements I personally have ever read on this board. Stop and think friend, if Hitler wasn't able to disarm all or most of Germany before he went on his personal crusade.How many citizens might have been able to defend themselves? Now I don't profess to be a world war II expert,but I believe he started with gun control.
