My uncle-in-law or whatever that makes him came into my humble town of 10,000 this weekend to bring his baby boy to see his aunt. While visiting, he went to the store. He came to a stop sign, made a complete stop, saw an officer down the street then proceeded to pull out. The officer promptly pulled him over. He thoroughly questioned him on why he drove 3 hours to my city and what was he "really" doing here and did he even have a baby or was that an act? Then wrote him a ticket for not stopping at the sign. When he told the officer that he had even seen him down the street and made sure to stop completely, the officer replied, well yes you did but you didnt wait three seconds before proceeding...... a few months ago i was pulled over and questioned thoroughly by an officer for about 15 minutes without cause. When i asked him what his cause for pulling me over after making a turn (and using my blinker) he said, i did not "maintain control of the right hand lane long enough before moving to the left lane" i thought ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME!?!?!!? i maintained calm though and apologized for my ignorance and asked for mercy. he promptly pulled out his ticket book.

my point to my rant is, it seems (in my area at least) that officers have forgotten it is their job to serve and protect. serve coming first in that statement.

i also want to vent that we have 25+ full time local officers + part timers, county HQ and state police HQ. the upside is, there is no crime 🤔 oh and because the crown vics werent very fuel efficient, and the dodge chargers they just got get a staggering 12.3mpg the way they drive them, they went out and got 4 brand new tahoes! it seems we are spending ourselves into oblivian 🐴

Sounds to me like the pd is a local revenue center. My experience is
that a donation to the benevolent assoc. (that getls you a window sticker)
is a wise investment in such locales.
A round every now and then at the local cop bar may also show a good return.

What you and your uncle have experienced is known as a "pretextual stop". They are illegal.

You have no obligation under either example you gave to answer any questions from the officer. Fifth Amendment.

From a SC State Trooper I went to school with, "Those charities are total BS and if you think I'm not going to write a ticket because you have one of their stickers you better think twice. Just obey the law and you won't have to worry." 😎

I used to live in a small upscale town that had it's own police force.. If you lived in the community you received a sticker that you put on your rear bumper which let the police know you "belonged" there.. Everyone know that if you didn't have this little sticker ALL traffic laws would be enforced with a zero tolerance. Example, 2 miles over the limit would most certainly get you pulled over... And heaven help a minority driving through in an old beat up vehicle ! He/she better be heading to someone's house to work or they where going to have some explaining to do!

You would then be asked what you where doing there? The wrong answer would probably earn you a 2nd ticket... needless to say everyone would warn guests to be careful! Residents were "warned" and very rarely ticketed

Up in the Orlando metro is a town called Windermere, everyone including the residents know traffic laws are strictly enforced ! But the deal is equally enforced!

In both of these cases, the officer is not being a jerk, he is just following policy and instructions. Of course get pulled over and told your getting a ticket for doing 38 in a 35 and you may not feel that way. 🤦

I thought I was gonna get a ticket in Florida back in January... damn sheriffs were camped out on I-10 every other mile it seemed.... had the cruise set on 75 and one came flying up on me and prolly ran my tag and stuff.. I kept the cruise set on 75 the whole time tho.. figured if I slowed down it would be like an admission of guilt and if he pulled me over I'd just argue my speedometer was off or somethin... he finally turned around without hasssling me... 😟

yes i am aware but in unforunate reality that is this town, as many towns described above, you answer or get a stack of tickets or possibly even jail. all he has to do is say you were weaving, he doesnt need proof to write you a ticket. then how are you going to fight it? its his word versus yours.
