Immigration is a big problem in Europe too. Any successful and rich country is a place people want to go to, especially if they don't have economic, political or religious freedom as good as that country. Pretty basic human trait.

I'm not gonna waste my time with this pathetic SOB anymore. So because you think that is unrealistic we as a Nation should just get used to CARRYING them is that right? Go do some friggin housework for chrissakes

TMCTLT wrote:

LMAO, you said to put huge pressure on the government to create an economy for the people. We even haven't been able to do that adequately and only a minority of other country's have either. You don't think it's really that simple do you? Just cut off all trade, the entire border? You know how many corporations moved factories to Mexico? Do you know what kind of backlash that would have on our economy? I would love more manufacturing back here in the US, I really would. Outsourcing is killing us. It's just not as simple as you make it sound.

What's pathetic is the fact you resort to the SOB comment. Seriously, I don't start with that stuff, I only respond, but at this point I'm just laughing that my retorts frustrate you so much that you feel the need to come back with it.

ill agree that you cant just throw up trade walls but you can make it more beneficial for companies to keep jobs here in the US while keeping the goods at an affordable price. some other points to consider are the minimum wage (up $3 in my working lifetime)and healthcare requirements now. both of these are making it harder for small business.

The reason nothing is being done is because certain industries love the cheap labor. Agriculture, meat packing, home services like cleaning, cooks (ever look in a restaurant kitchen anywhere in the US?), lawncare, etc. It's often said that this is taking away American jobs, but really, how many Americans would want those jobs for what they pay?

And if they want an American, they would have to pay more, and I'd say great, more jobs for more Americans. But the price of lettuce, apples, grapes, chicken, beef and virtually everything else we eat would go up in price by 50% at least. It would be great if the people who do these jobs would have the same opportunities in the countries they are from, but as long as the jobs are here and the companies here want cheap labor and are able to get away with it, it's going to continue.

As far as the next voting base, I don't think any politician thinks that long term anymore. It's all about the next election and making money to run, and the people they get the money from are the ones hiring these workers.

Believe it or not, illegal immigrants actually contribute more to the economy and the country's coffers via taxes than they take. They do send a lot of it home to family though.

As far as health care is concerned, when someone shows up in a hospital medical professionals are required by oath to give care, and I think that's a good thing. How to figure out the money issue is another thing. One of those moral questions with no easy answer.

And btw, it wasn't the Dems who brought up the bill in the Reagan admin, it was a bi-partisan commission recommendation and authored by Simpson(R) and Mazzoli(D).

i know a lot of people dont want to do these lower paying jobs but there are millions on welfare. something is better than nothing is it not? i suppose if you have given up on dignity and are ok with getting a check every month, no work is better than some work

My understanding is he actually co-signed on a lawsuit with the Mexican Gov. to sue his own state of AZ.

What a crock of Donkey Droppings..........disgusting!!! Can't wait for Fuzz to defend this action

TMCTLT wrote:

I don't think that's true. Mexico and the US have both filed different lawsuits regarding the AZ immigration law.

States sue the federal government all the time over laws they don't like, don't know how often the reverse is true though. I think the major beef with this law is the federal vs state overlap. I'm not a lawyer though.

I know I stopped mowing my lawn and doing most of the yard work a few years ago. Gave my lawnmower to one of my brother in-laws. I just couldn't handle the load anymore physically.

If we really want to cut back on illegal immigration, go after the companies that hire them aggressively.

ANLA/ CANGC Webinar: I-9 Audit...It Could Happen Tomorrow

...IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU! ARE YOU PREPARED? The federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is conducting I-9 immigration worksite audits at a record pace. Nursery, landscape, and farming businesses are being hit. Poor compliance practices can mean thousands of dollars in fines, or worse. Even if you are in compliance, the results can be devastating as you are forced to terminate experienced and valued workers. Be prepared. While the impacts of an audit cannot be completely avoided, smart preparation can save you time and money.

Join the California Association of Nurseries and Garden Centers (CANGC), and the American Nursery & Landscape Association (ANLA), on Wednesday, April 27 at 10:30 am PT, for a 1 1/2 hour crash-course webinar on how to prepare.
