The Doots - The Best of The Doors

Hafta admit, been awhile since I sat down and listened to them. My only gripe about this particular collection is that it’s out of order. I prefer to listen to comp albums in chronological order so one day I’ll rearrange the songs and make my own set.

Double Carlos night.

Santana - Caravanserai and Welcome

Love these two albums. Carlos changed his direction towards jazz-fusion so for me, I have to listen to them all the way through, with minimum disruption.

Led Zeppelin - The Soundtrack from the film "The Song Remains the Same"

Listened to the album when it first came out in '76 but don't remember it too well. Never watched the movie either. Seen bits and pieces of it but had no real interest in sitting through the 2+ hours.

Edit: after listening to the whole album, I now remember why we didn’t play this too much in the store. Except for a few songs, the album is, in one word: boring. Page’s long solos are aimless and “Moby D*ck” featuring Bonham’s drum solo, excessive. I borrowed the album from the library and glad I never bought it.

Warren Zevon - a comp disc of my favorites.

After the waste of time listening to Led Zeppelin, needed something good to end the night.

Led Zeppelin in all their glory was a sloppy hot mess live. Always was too. I prefer the 1969 Denmark filmed live performance,

?si=SsH7tB3oi12DN2HA

but their last stand in Berlin before the shortened set at the O2 Arena...is them at the top of their live perfromances taking chances with solos.

"Train Kept A-Rollin'"
"Nobody's Fault but Mine"
"Out on the Tiles"
"In the Evening"
"The Rain Song"
"Hot Dog"
"All My Love"
"Trampled Under Foot"
"Since I've Been Loving You"
"Achilles Last Stand"
"White Summer"/"Black Mountain Side"
"Kashmir"
"Stairway to Heaven"

Encores:

"Rock and Roll"
"Whole Lotta Love"
"Heartbreaker"
"Communication Breakdown"
"Money (That's What I Want)"

This was the tour that I had a ticket in my pocket to see in Maryland. This was supposed to be close to the set list they were touring with. I was super excited to see my Rock N Roll superheroes. One of my friends (that had a ticket too) and I were working together when the news broke that John Bonham had died. I opened up my wallet and looked at the ticket...I was never going to see Led Zeppelin. If I ever get my hands on a time machine I would go back to those Denmark and Berlin shows. As a ghost. Because.

Totally agree…except, as you stated, their earlier years. I haven’t seen or heard the Denmark show but have an ROIO of a ‘69 Paris show that is excellent. The one and only time I got to see LZ was in 1970. While they hadn’t, yet, become bloated and excessive, there were signs of things to come. Jimmy took extended (…but tasteful…) solos and even brought out his violin bow for a song. Bonham did do an extended solo too but iirc, it wasn’t anything too long. He did have the big gong behind him. Unfortunately, it was the early show and they somehow seemed rushed and was using the show as a soundcheck.

Rick's channel is a personal choice that I totally dig. He's a helluva musician and producer. His ear jives up with mine and I really enjoy his takes. With the recent popularity he's obtained through the channel he's only getting better guests.
