Their politics are more fun.... you'll be in a small town when a truck comes through cranking music (or sometimes a band) then the booze flows and there is a party. I think last man standing wins.

I wonder how the average Jose would be affected tax wise... I assume they're already recieving USA bucks... what happens when they have to start paying state & fed taxes.... 🤔

My wife and I have talked about this quite a bit.... enough that I know not to bring it up anymore.

My take (she doesn't agree with most of it)

Independent - Backwards step to thirld world country. The youngsters drinking and ruminating about gringos love this one.
State - good and bad here. Representation Probably more taxes (at least fed...they already have their local taxes), maybe more money back as well (from the fed) I really don't see much upside here
Status Quo - No real representation, but to me it seems like a one way money stream (towards them) and although not represented directly they still have influence. My take on this annoys my wife.


I'm not that deep into their politics and am prolly wrong. this is my shoot from the hip. If I lived there I'd look at it more closely of course.


Truth be said they are prolly status quo for a long while and like most places the real political battles are local.

you're prolly right about the status quo thing... the subject was brought up around a couple times in the psat few days tho... of course everyone thought it was a done deal and are trying to figure out how to buy property there.... 😟

We just sold property there a few years back.... talk about a nightmare....

it can't be done, it can't be done, it can't be done, it's done. Thats how conducting business there is. We spent two weeks haggling with lawyers and the crim (sp?...the govt).

We went through it again last yeardividing some property to sell one of the houses to the renter... OMG

even getting grandma into a home was hard work.



My FIL (the other grandma's son) spent 3 days trying to cancel his mom's tellephone and utility accounts when she had to move into a home. She has alzheimer's and couldn't do it herself. He finally told them if they couldn't cancel it just try to find her and collect....

As for nursing facilities.... there really are none in the sense we have here. There are ZERO medicare certified homes. They don't need to be because they have the people at their mercy. They are not certified or inspected and are horrific for the most part. People are trapped and have to private pay.... there are few choices. Really scary. We have it good here.


Their economy seems to be alot more volitile than ours too. I love the island but if my last couple trips there would have been my first I would not return.

They will bounce back though.

My wife and I are talking about starting a business there...... one that will likely break even at best, but will likely be a slow bleeder (loss). If we can figure out how to keep it from being a fast bleeder we will likely go for it at some point. It will benefit the a small area of people on the island but it would be a start.

I would tend to say blue. Agree with TW regarding Government mess. I've dealt with several agencies (USDA, DOJ, etc.) and they tend to make things more difficult that they ought to be. 😣

Btw, Puerto Ricans are NOT a race- warm, affectionate, yet volatile people but not a race. There tends to be a mixture of Arawak Indian, white, & black but skins tones range from fair blond to coal black. I lived there for a few years & still have family there. Should post family pics but too lazy for the usual "look at me".

Those are US agencies..... they are a peice of cake. It's the local government that is AWFUL...... everything is on paper somewhere but not able to be found (until they just show up). It is the whole reason their birth certificates are null and void (and were used for illegal immigration). What a mess. Tru dealing with the CRIM or
