I've always had a deep dislike for the bans against plastic bags, or the taxes.
Now I feel justified.

I recentely puchased a cup of coffee on da beach in St Petersburg to take with me on a walk.... when I asked the lady were the lids were she informed me they were bad for the enviroment.. when I asked her how I was suppose to walk with hot coffee she got very rude and stuff.. like I was the one that threw the coffee lid on the beach that killed the starfish... she was F'n nuts... 😟

If she felt so strongly about it, she could have supplied more environmentally friendly lids and put a sign above them telling you how bad they are for the environment and to only use it if you need it.

It's the same argument with paper/foam cups vs ceramic mugs and bottled water vs reusable bottles. Heck even the benefits of recycling could be debated. People just want to feel like they are doing good, regardless of the actual results.

I use my re-usable tote with a disposible plastic liner for sanitary purposes.

Wink: Trouble in America, a calamity wrapped in danger with a scream for the precious environment. Good evening I'm Wink McFinkerstein and tonight's story brings us to Georgetown. A very happy place. A man's man kind of town, a village where men are men and rubby is the sport they play. These enterprising young lads have come up with an Earth saving device that will change the world! Instead of throwing these bags away they're turning these into enviro-friendly breathing apparatus. Here's Bruce Whispy to demonstrate.

Bruce: Well, itss a really nice idea and the whole rubby team came up with it after a very good scrum, hot sweaty men rubbing their bodies all over each other. Pushing and shoving and pushing some more...

Wink: Uh, ummm Bruce...the idea you had?

Bruce: Oh, where are my manners, yes that. Oh well you see dearie you just take the old bag and tie it around your head. If it has holes it's not going to work you have to have a tight seal and we all know how I just love a tight seal! Ohhh...the whole thing works like magic if you take a belt and wrap it around your neck so the bag is nice and snug all over your head. Once that's done you can tie the belt as tight as possible. Remember girls...the tighter the better! That's all you have to do! Sometime I put talc or bath salts in the bag right before I toss it over my head to get the fresh feeling.

Here in Seattle, we recently passed a law that banned stores from giving out thin plastic grocery bags, and put a 5 cent tax on paper bags. I have always a refused bags when I didn't need them anyhow, but I thought this law was going to be a pain. Now that its been in place for a while, I don't mind it. When I remember, I bring my own bag, otherwise I pay 5 cents. Not a big deal to me. I see way more people bringing in their own bag now, even though its only 5 cents, and I think it's probably a good thing. I didn't look at your link to see the down side, but maybe I will when I get home.
