That is the real "rub" with the monuments closing. These places are open air monuments, unguarded, and open 24 hours a day. They had to go through effort to procure barricades, set them up, and then guard them to create the closing effect that was desired.

There is no doubt that this action falls in the "make it hurt" strategy from the President.

This whole affair is a reminder that the people work for the government, not the government works for the people.

If you think for one moment that THIS mans ( Obama ) politics are like anyone else's who came before him....
You are blind in one eye and seldom use the other....this guy is a major socialist. PERIOD.

So what was Reagan then....Who I think had some great ideas and had SOME of the worst ideas that we are still dealing with today. . To this day I have done more research and reading from Reagans presidency then any other.

Obama has transferred wealth from the rich to the poor, whereas Reagan transferred wealth from the poor and the middle class to the rich!!!!

One ting I do remember reading was how Reagan was so PROUD of his Income tax bill that would bring jobs.
Long story short, Reagan signed that law and reduced the income tax for the wealthiest Americans and corporations. What happened to those jobs he promised along with trimming of the budget deficit?

The deficit soared from a little over 2% to over 6%.We also experience the worst recession since the 1930.

So what did he do to try and fix it. Lets raise TAXES!!!

He proposed the biggest tax rise on payrolls, and promised to create a surplus in the Social Security system. (HOWS THAT SOCIAL SECURITY FUND TODAY?) Oh wait that was used to finance the deficit....

You're correct for the years of 09-11. I will find the article from Wall Street Journal last month that shows the rich-poor gap has come down 2% granted that is nothing near what it was before Reagan.

And last I checked both parties are using the VETS along with the military as PAWNS.

Seriously? When business and the rich finance politicians you really think they are going to screw them over and take care of the poor? I suppose that sort of euphoria might explain why people keep sending the same azzhats to DC.

BTW, to a large degree the poor are the poor for a lot of reasons no politician can ever solve. As my stepfather used to say, "You could divide up all the wealth in equally among all people in the world and within a week there would be poor.

But you forgot that there would be the rich as well. The money has to go somewhere. Someone has to sell all of the stuff. And in the end the Chinese would get richer under their Socialist State. Looks like they've got something right.

True, there would be a transfer of wealth. Hey, it's a service to 'hold' it for them. [jester]

As for China, they may be adapting the policies we used to bankrupt and break up the USSR on the USA. At the very least they are enabling our politicians and since the people in are DC too reactionary to be good chess players we are in peril.

You may be in a tad over your head.

IIRC, the bank bail outs transferred massive amounts of capital from the treasury, you and me, to Goldman Sachs, Chase, and a few others.

When and if Obamacare comes to be, it will be an insurance company Christmas that begins on January 1st and ends on December 31st, every year. Doesen't Bershire Hathaway have massive insurance company holdings? Isn't that Obama's Chief Financial Cheerleader Warren Buffet source of wealth?

In addition, let us not forget:
Brightsource
Solyndra
Johnson Controls
A123 Systems
Compact Power

There are examples on the other side as well. But, you said Obama took from the rich to give to the poor. I just wanted to level the field.

Yes, and just to be fair, 'cause I don't like either party, it started with the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) program of the United States government that purchased assets and equity from financial institutions to strengthen its financial sector. It was signed into law by U.S. President George W. Bush on October 3, 2008. It transferred taxpayer dollars to large corporations that pissed away their money on crap investments. BTW, it was anything but capitalism, if it were these bankrupt companies would have been closed.

That is another example of corporate welfare. It seems WE hate most of both types; corporate and personal. Unfortunately, there are many more forms of welfare that need to be eliminated. For example, why should land owners be paid not to farm their land? Why should the rest of the country bail out Detroit? BTW, the city of Stockton has its hands out.

Should we be giving able bodied people EBT cards, phones etc. Doesn't that create a disincentive to find a job?

Why should we raise the minimum wage? Doesn't that reduce the buying power of the middle class which pushes the poverty threshold higher? Won't a person seek to improve his/her personal capital to find jobs that pay more if there is an incentive to do so?

Just some thoughts to ponder....

I agree with you on corporate welfare too. From the local, e.g., our city leaders are hell bent on building a baseball stadium to the corporate bail outs. Just like welfare, they have the unintended effect of encouraging poor decisions and laziness.

Your points on welfare are right on the money. If you ever have any doubt, talk to an immigrants, both legal and illegal, they know the value of opportunity and hard work.
