I live in MA (one of the states that had the problem) and swung by the grocery store this weekend to grab a couple of things.

$hit asz luck... I was in line behind someone in line who was trying to pay with an EBT card. She freaked out when it didn't process and she wanted it fixed NOW! Made a scene because her free $ didn't work to pay for her stuff. She then stormed off and went straight to one of those ATM kiosks in the grocery store and tried to get cash (which I guess they can do here in MA). That didn't work either... She was pissed.

All I wanted was to pay for the bag of dog food, a gallon of milk and some produce... I moved to another line.

In other words it isn't 'govt's money' they give away, it's redistribution of the taxpayer's money.

Of course there is the valid argument that the government can not only redistribute a portion of the money they confiscate from the taxpayers, but they also have the power to expand the money supply by conjuring up money out of thin air via the printing press or a few keystrokes electronically, and redistributing that. But even then, the money doesn't belong to the government as it's the present and future taxpayers that will bear the burden of supporting with taxes an artificially expanded money supply and devalued currency.
