I've been trying to find information on this and simply can't find anything concrete...

So I seriously dislike the government shutdown, ever since living in DC and seeing what actually happens. For those of you who don't know... the entire city starts running around like its a snow day. No one has to work... and guess what, while they may not be getting paid now, most of the people I knew ended up getting back-pay after the budget is set... so it's free vacation. F$$kers....

That in mind, I can't figure out what the dems are necessarily voting against here. Can someone rational tell me why they don't want to approve the current CR? Is it just a bad budget (ie programs they want being cut?) or is it because it's a CR and not an actual budget? (I get wanting to stop this kicking the can down the road)...

Of course, we've seen absolutely no evidence of these skills but I'm sure he has them and is saving them for when he really needs them.

Give him credit, he did delay his trip to Florida.

The last time the govt. shut down was in 2013, when the GOP wanted to keep Obamacare from being funded...they thought that was a good reason...now they don't want to solve DACA or fund CHIP, which the Dems are asking for...so basically their position is we don't want to fund stuff the Dems want for poor people, who would likely vote Dem?

Were there any real severe consequences from the 2013 shutdown? They eventually relented, after two weeks, and Obamacare was funded. It gave the GOP a political cause to fight against for the next few years. The GOP retained control of Congress and eventually won the Presidency. So shutting the Fed govt is not that big of a deal to the GOP...

So apparently the dems want to keep DACA, Trump has refused to extend it in the past (I think?).... it expires in March.

So the dems won't sign unless there is an extension to DACA in place DACA is set to expire in March.

Trump claims that there is "plenty of time" to negotiate DACA and that they should just drop it. Of course, trump has shown himself to be horribly unreliable in the past, and if they give up this leverage he'll likely just not extend it in March.

I'm meh on DACA... but its another one of those programs that once in place, seems pretty bad to remove. The US government negotiated in good faith to get these illegal immigrants to become documented and in the system. If DACA is ended, ICE will likely just use those existing records to find and deport them immediately. It appears pretty poor form.

There is no DACA bill to vote on... It doesn't even expire until March.. and Trump offered to fund CHIP for 6 years.. Pelosi called that offer dog chit.. 😟

This is what happens when a president loses credibility with congress. They start asking him to pay up front for all deals.

I'm referring to credibility when it comes to negotiations.

Trump has reversed, backtracked, reneged on a number of negotiations with both dem and repub congress. They have no reason to trust what he says, so I can understand why they're not going to drop this simply because he believes they can negotiate something next month.
