Medium brown, petite torpedo.

Pre-light, cold draw…no sweetness and no pepper but had distinctive leather notes/flavor. It lit easily and had a very smooth, easy draw. After lighting it up, the leather notes faded away pretty quickly.

The first third jumped right into a burnt nuts flavor. (not a bad kind of burnt nuts more like toasted nuts). There was even a hint of the wacky tobacky during the smoking of the cigar. This cigar poured out the smoke which had a yellowish tint to it.

2nd third, did I mention burnt nuts….if I didn’t, I will again…it definitely has the burnt nuts thing down. It stayed in this flavor for the majority of the cigar. Then….

3rd third…I was thinking this would be a single note type of cigar (enjoyable) but the last third the cigar jumped around with flavors. I can’t pin point the exact flavor but will just say that the last third was pretty damn good.

Overall, the cigar was excellent. During the middle, I ended up talking to another cigar smoker at the hotel that I was staying at and might have missed some flavor changes during those times of BSing.

I am having a hard time picking where I think that this cigar lands on the scale because I have smoked all three. Flavor wise, construction wise…this cigar could be the premium but I have this feeling that it is the medium range cigar.

Opel, this cigar was very good.

Cigar C
7.5 inch, dark brown lancero with the remnants of a pigtail on its triple cap. To me it looks like a Jericho Hill but maybe a shade lighter. It has a light oily touch which actually leads me away from the Jericho Hill, which tend to have a more dry, rough touch.

Cold draw seems a bit tight but it lit easily. There was definitely a pepper flavor for the first inch or so of the cigar. It then faded off pretty quickly. It was obvious from the beginning that this was going to be a nicotine asskicker.

I am not really pulling any definite flavor profiles from the cigar. It is smooth and produces a plethora of smoke. Burn was even and seemed to progress very slowly. Overall the cigar took a couple of hours to smoke.

Overall, a pretty good smoke. The construction, feel, and generous smoke levels gave the impression of premium cigar but I don’t think it was. I am going to go with the yardar on this one. I think that I might be making a poor decision on this.

A 5X48ish medium brown in color witha nice barnyard aroma mixed with BBQ.Upon lighting I get a nice little hit of black pepper which mellows into a burnt meat with very faint BBQ in the background.No complexity at all it ended in burnt meat and BBQ.........................................I liked it,it would be an excellent " in the mood to just smoke and vege out stick"


My guess this is the middle range stick

Great reviews stinger... hope I didn't screw up the medium and high... I went off the prices at my local but it's California and it's a little screwy sometimes... that said...

A - Tat Cojuno 2003 - Mid - the best of the cojonu's in my opinion...

B - Opus X Power Ranger (beli) - High - my favorite cigar to date...

C - My Father La Promesa lancero - Low - my favorite everyday cigar... other sizes aren't worth looking at in my opinion, but the lancero I like...

Opel...great cigars. I think they all are in the premium range. That Power Ranger was really good. If I wasn’t fooled into thinking the first one was a T52, I would have guessed it as the premium. I think I have one in the humidor. Now I know what to expect from it.

Medium brown in color,corona gorda in size,but nothing stands out in the prelight......HMMMMMM.Upon toasting I get milk chocolate and cedar.Bout an inch in nutmeg,dark choco and almonds,a delicious combo til about the halfway mark when white pepper, cedar and dark choco become the predominant flavors.The white pepper dissapates while the cedar and dark choco take charge..........all the way to the finale.This stick is definitely in my wheelhouse.......it screams Padron but I could be way off base.I think this is the premium selection.

#1 Fire corono - yardgar
#2 - Montecristo Afrigue corono - mid grade
#3 - Ashton VSG corono gorda

The first two had a good bit of age on them. #3 was relatively new.

I cannot believe I confused a VSG,which I always have a box or two of,for a Padron which I rarely partake.

Plebian Palate Reviews – Vol II: The Musical
Mystery Cigar #3 (to the tune of Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald) – Because Jason requested a ballad

I’m sitting around with the sun shining down
On the edge of the town Valparaiso
6 inches in length, 48 for a gauge
Once again I am smoking a toro (or corona gorda, but that doesn’t rhyme)
The wrapper is found as a dark chocolate brown
A bit bumpy it feels and the veins show
A fan on the cap and my guess was a wrap
But the size doesn’t match any Unico

The burn is quite straight. No correction is made
My torch lighter sits there forgotten
The ash it is dense and I watch in suspense
Until then at 3 inches ‘tis fallen
From start until through, the cherry it stays true
The need for relight misbegotten
Smoke output is fine but won’t block out my eyes
So Liga is ruled out once again

The flavors are nice. I would pay quite a price
The pepper it makes its way through
Creaminess there and with coffee it pairs
Sweetness and chocolate in queue
The time it flies by. It’s the end I might cry
If only I had more to accrue
Nicaraguan at play but which one I can’t say
My best guess was shot down this I knew

Tentative Billboard Ranking: The new and improved Premium
I would play this track on repeat all day long

Final Guesses:
#1 - Yard Gar - I took a shot at a Ramon Bueso
#2 - Mid-range - actually liked the flavor of #1 better overall, but placed this higher for construction and variety of tastes. Guessed Durango based on a Google search heavily influenced by the pipe tobacco smell I was experiencing
#3 - Premium - My favorite. No real guess on manufacturer, but pretty set on the Nicaraguan decision

The Reveal:
I was wrong. Self destruction's got me again.
#1 - DTT Umbagog - Mid-range - Damn it! I like these and I went and called it a yard gar
#2 - Rocky Patel Nicaraguan - Yard gar
#3 - Muestra de Saka Nacatamale - Premium

One out of three ain't bad. It's not Meatloaf level, but still not bad. Ok, clearly I'm still not very good at this. Thanks much for the smokes Jason. I enjoyed each in their own way, and I never would have bought the Saka on my own, so my cheap azz is grateful. Also the beans are da bomb!
