It is definitely a bad move and in poor taste. Using the defense that this has been going on for years and that it's a pseudo tradition is not a good defense. The invites were meant to go only to non-whites and it was exposed. If the shoe was on the other foot and a pubic government executive got caught sending out party invites to only white males that are blond hair and blue eyes, those "members" of the special club would be lambasted.

If it's a member only club such as an Eagles Club, a VFW, rod and gun club, golf course club, Free Masons and so on then I get it. The meeting or party is for members only but I don't think race, gender or such things apply to be a member of these groups.

This was not that. It was meant for public government officials and elected people that fit the desired profile. They got caught being noninclusive while they pretend to beat the drum of inclusion.

If you want to have a private party and select specific people to join, that is your choice. This was a PUBLIC GOVERNMENT EXECUTIVE wanting to only allow PUBLIC GOVERNMENT ELECTED or chosen people of certain a profile to attend the party.

Inclusion and transparency... her choice was neither of those. Blame her assistant or whatever but the goal is/was the same. Only invite folks that meet the criteria that I want.

Ooops, the invites were sent it to everyone. Start damage control.

well, as much as I enjoy outrage and spinning heads...HA!

I'm not a resident of the City of Boston, but I'm close enough to want to know what this really was about. Like most people, the headline grabbed my attention.

Apparently this has been an ongoing event for several years intended to celebrate the strides made in local government(s) of people of color/minorities and has grown in size...but it is not a Mayor Wu invention. It was simply her year to host as it is held on some kind of rotating set up. Sorry to report that "kill whitey" is not on the menu.

It's (supposedly) not funded by taxpayer money.

I dunno, I wasn't invited either. But it's hardly a hate crime...more of a gathering of a group of individuals with a story in common celebrating that they have broken through the barriers and are actually participating in the System...maybe more of a "club" in tribute to new found success in America?
