Supposed to frost tonight. Picked everything off of all plants.

We picked bush beans, pole beans, sugar snap peas, ripe tomatoes, semi-ripe tomatoes, green tomatoes worth frying, tabasco peppers, banana peppers, Hungarian wax peppers, jalapeno peppers, serrano peppers, bell peppers, cherry bomb peppers and one decent eggplant. We'll dig the potatoes sometime in the next couple days.

Post Script:

Its cold out there in the shade. My face got wind burn and my a$$ was frozen. Thankful that the autonomous enclave of "Hivelyland" produces it's own free natural gas. We'll have those heaters cranked up until mid April.

I'll never forget that first November up here.(We got here October 30th, 2021) The heaters hadn't been delivered yet. Mid November, snow on the ground, old farmhouse with no insulation and chitty windows, way back in the Allegheny Mountains...

All we had was a Mr. Heater "portable buddy" with some big tanks of propane for an entire house. We stayed in one room with the door shut when we weren't working. Talk about cold... I could see my own breath inside of the house. I remember how worried I was that the main heater wouldn't be delivered because of weather. That's living on the edge for sure.

I was so happy when the Fedex guy showed up in an old beat up white van. I shook his hand and thanked him. Lol!

I'll also never forget the glow of the 30,000 btu furnace in the darkness of that old living room. We still didn't have overhead lighting, and I don't think we even had electricity at the time. It felt primitive staring at that fire; it would keep us alive. That's when I knew that if I worked hard enough we would be okay. You can have plenty of land, money and food but it doesn't really matter if you can't stay warm. My wife remained freaked out for another 6 months. But , I knew "we'd live". Literally.

The end.

It's been an interesting 3 years. Lol

Wife is in there making homemade salsa; she'll can it afterwards . I picked 124 tomatoes a few days ago. I laid out the ripe and semi-ripe ones in a couple carboard box lids and sat them by the window in the man cave. The sunlight ripened em up nicely.

Also got another 10 gallons of frozen and cored tomatoes over the last few weeks. That should yield 10 more quarts of marinara. Yall ever heard of "Rao's" brand marinara? Wife found a copycat recipe for that a few years ago and has made a few mods to it. It's really good stuff.

I'm a fan of Rao's brand sauces and soups. They are pretty good.
My Son loves the Pasta ****ioli soup. I have a couple jars of their tortellini & vegetable soup for backup if I forget to pack a lunch.

That’s a beautiful entry, friend. At the bottom instead of The end, I think it should be The beginning. God bless you.

A deer got into our corn garden Thursday night, freaked out, then busted through the other side.

Bent poles, mangled a section of fence, tore down the deer netting. Ridiculous. Did the same thing last year around this time. They never go in there when there is actual food for them to eat...

Idk, we are overrun with deer. Not joking, I think there are more deer than people in this county. There should be a bounty on them with a continuous open season--just like they have for coyotes.

We'll work on it tomorrow--supposed to have nice weather. We're going to measure out the new garden so we know how much fencing materials to buy over the winter, then clean up the old main garden and fix the fence on the corn garden.

We're shooting for at least 4,500 sq ft for the new garden. That would take us up to 8,766 sq ft combined for the 3 gardens--all with an 8 foot fence. Going to put this new one in a choice spot that has east/west sun and no trees.

Over and out.

We took measurements for the new garden today, plus measurements to extend the old corn garden. The old main garden will remain unchanged.

Garden A (Old main): 2,516 sq ft It's a weird L shape

Garden B (Old corn garden): 2,500 sq feet (100x25)

Garden C (New corn garden): 9,000 sq feet (125x75) Roughly sixty 30 ft rows of corn down the center + stuff on the sides

Total Fenced: 14,016 sq feet

This is what we're shooting for... We'll need sixteen 40 pound bags of lime for the three.8-[

I'm thinking on one side I'll do two 125 ft rows of bush beans. That would be a little over eight 30 ft rows worth. Corn will be in front center. Then on the other side of the corn I'll put in some potatoes. In the small center space between the end of the corn and the fence I'm gonna try to plant some H99 tobacco. That's my tentative plan for garden C.

Staggered it will be 1,500 corn seeds and 125 ft worth of beans planted on May 15.

Then 1,000 corn seeds and 125 ft worth of beans planted on June 15.

Corn harvests, roughly, will be July 15 & August 15.

Robert on the gardens you already limed this season go half rate next year if everything seemed healthy. Do full rate on the new one. This is me just guessing but your levels should be ok

Planted one row of garlic. According to some website I would wait till November. I disagree but will do another row in November to compare.
