Good situation for Penix. Sit and learn and don't get thrown to the wolves. He has an arm, a great deep ball and touch.

I don't think he should have gone 8th... but I think he might have been lucky to go to a team with an established QB so he has time to learn and adjust. Just my $.02

I don’t think they wasted their pick I think they reached, he’s a good dude and a great player who fought through injuries. They have an awesome back who can catch, a first round pick #1 receiver and a first round pick TE who’s basically a receiver, and they picked up Mooney a solid X/slot receiver in FA.

They probably could have traded down and risked not getting their guy but I think this was a long play.

Dan Orlovsky said on today’s Pat McAfee Show that the Falcons had Penix rated as the #2 QB (…Jayden Daniels was #1…) so for them to take him as the 4th QB shouldn’t necessarily be seen as a complete surprise. But of course, no one outside of the Atlanta draft room knew that so to us as well as the draft “experts” it was shocking and seemingly stoopid. If you like a guy and the value is there, gotta take him. Obviously the Falcons felt they had to get him now rather than take a chance for later. Also on the show, Michael Lombardi thinks Penix was a luxury pick and railed on the selection so differences of opinions abound.

Having lived through the Jordan Love pick and being totally mystified at the time, all I can say is, let’s wait until Cousins is out and Penix becomes QB#1 before we really judge the Atlanta pick.

Coach Morris said it... they want to win now, and they're trying to. They got Cousins and weapons for him. The plan is to win the division and get to the playoffs. They don't plan to be picking that high again so they had to grab their guy right now.

Makes sense to me. They've got picks in the rest of the draft to get what else they need.

Lotta movement / trades in the early going of the 2nd round.

Big guys and RECs going fast.

I wanted the Niners to draft Ladd McConkey... never heard of the Pearsall kid... and the fookin Chargers got him. Dammit.

^ agreed.

Falcons for Trice, that’s a solid pick up in a need spot for them.

Chargers are quietly having a great draft, Cards are doing good too, kinda pissed the Bears didn’t trade into the 2nd round. Still need a center, an edge and I would like them to grab Dorlus from Oregon.

Curious if the Bolts grab Blake Corum next pick, Nevermind! My daughter has Romeo & Juliet tonight and tomorrow my phone was on airplane mode.

Redskins killed round 2.

I do like Javon Bullard at safety Palama.

Hope he turns out to be a stud in the back. One thing that’s apparent, Gutey sure likes those Georgia players.

Hopefully 1 of them wins a starting job.

Da Bears selection of the Iowa punter was really smart. He’s an underappreciated weapon.

I think the Bears drafting Tory Taylor the punter is significant in a few ways. The took a stud of a punter and did it in the fourth round. This says a lot about Ryan Pace. He made a mistake in drafting a bum from Indiana, so he moved on quickly. A lot of GMs would have been to in love with their previous pick to do that. Also, he does not care about perceived image. He cares about building a football team and following his process. Z, I would have liked to see them draft the young man from Oregon to play center. I thought for sure he would go between 20 and 27. He was an absolute steal in the second round. Speaking of steals it looks like the Eagles secondary just got very good.

The Pack hired a new defensive coordinator out of Boston College this year. As I understand it, he likes a more aggressive plan vs a sit back and do the prevent defense. I like an attack defense vs a sit back and do the prevent style.

Roby was very good but for me, it's Ray Guy all the way. Only punter to be drafted in the 1st round as well as enshrined in the PFHoF. Al Davis was a genius in seeing how RG could be a weapon and flip the field.

Saw Ray in the 1972 Hula Bowl. As we were walking towards the stadium, Guy was warming up and we could clearly see his booming punts sailing high above the top of the stands. And when we got inside, the "THUD" of the ball coming off his foot was unreal.

Seemed like a luxury pick almost, but the kid is really damn good. Poles has done a better job than any other Bears GM in recent memory, just don’t want to see so many 3 and outs this next year:

Philly and Pittsburg I think quietly successful drafts.

Arizona, too... they got the top rated WR and RB in the draft.

Agree, they were both different style punters. Guy was amazing. Almost ballerina in how he kicked. Seemed like he could scratch the top of his head with his toes. Roby looked like a linebacker and just boomed the thing. His feet didn't leave the turf on his kicks.

They both mastered the hang time and placement on where it landed pinning the opposing team inside the 20yd line time and time again.

Ray Guy is the only full-time punter in the Hall of Fame.
