Yes, cwilhelmi, you are right. It was joking trash talk. That's it. Jeez, Mag, lighten up! Sports trash talk doesn't, by definition, have any rhyme or reason to it. You just defend your team with whatever b.s. you can come up with and critique the opponents with the same sort of nonsense. That's the fun of it for me. It really isn't of any consequence.
As to the 'you didn't have the balls' comment, you couldn't be further from the truth. I just decided that the personal attacks--which seemed obsessed with degrading my profession--weren't worth continuing discussion. Would you continue if multiple people called you a 'stupid grease monkey'? And they meant it in a hateful way? No, you wouldn't. I didn't whine or complain, so don't say that I did. I just quit posting. I wasn't aware of an obligation to keep posting once started. Just quit because the degrading of me and my profession grew tiresome, as well as the fact that my sweetie is 6mos pregnant and needs more of my time. Sorry I didn't remain committed to being the whipping boy for you and your friends. Name calling is boring and boorish. No thanks.
I do remember you defending me when personally attacked, Mike. I do. And I appreciate it. But, and this makes that support feel a little lukewarm, I also remember you saying you would never have been friends with me had you known I was a professor and a left-winger. You followed that with something like 'but now we are friends, so I can't do much about that.' I don't recall you saying that you thought I was a person worthy of friendship, respect, or a good person. Just resignation. How would you feel if I said the same about you? That, had I known you were a mechanic and a right-winger, I would never have been friends with you, but now I am so I can't go back. Damn. Not exactly a ringing endorsement, now, is it?
As to my degrees: earned with blood, sweat, and tears. You ought to have a little more respect for that. Many dedicated years to perfecting a craft, something you surely understand from your own business. I've never disrespected your work that way.
Finally, the Lakers rock and will dominate next year. They were a good roll away from going up 3-2, which we all know would have been a deciding confidence factor for the Spurs. As we saw last night, San Antonio has glass balls. The Mavs rolled over them when the chips were down. They play 48 minutes. Not 40.
