and yet another improbable friendship moves forward, thanks to cbid forums for introducing us...and the conversation was infinitely more interesting than My Dinner With Andre!

last night, my wife Caren and I met Alan and his wife Deb at a very cool French eatery called Gaslight in Boston's South End neighborhood. Alan and Deb suggested we meet there, Caren and I had it on our list of places to try, so we were all in on that idea. And there was some sad irony that we would meet there as the news continues to come in from Paris.

Meeting in the city made sense since Boston is about the same distance for each of us, Alan is from the North Shore, we are from the South Shore.

I met Alan at a MAhole herf hosted by Edin508 a year and a half ago and we have danced around the double date dinner plans ever since. We had a great time getting to know each other as couples rather than just cigar enthusiasts, learning a bit about all of our careers, families, a little politics...and that only means we need to learn more in subsequent "dates".

And for the record, no cigars were harmed, but some fine cuisine and adult beverages were enjoyed by all.

We had a blast, Alan, it was truly a pleasure to spend the evening with you folks. Please keep my number in your Rolodex!

Frank & Caren (who, despite her disdain for all things tobacco, continues to be amazed by the quality of my virtual friendships as they transform to real relationships).

Thanks, Frank & Caren, we had a wonderful night - fantastic food (escargots, anyone?) and great conversation. There was even a film crew there; they must have heard rumors that Frank would be showing up, those crazy paparazzi!

The two of us have done a number of splits & trades over the years, but it is true that you don't necessarily need to meet someone face to face to develop a friendship (right, Z?). But this being only the second time meeting was belied by the fact that it seemed like old friends meeting at the local brasserie. And extra special was the two ladies hitting it off from the get-go; helps that they are both in the same field, right?

And BTW, the fact that no cigars were harmed has nothing to do with current inventory; it's primarily due to Boston's unreasonably restrictive smoking regs.

Let's do that again soon you two. We had a blast!
