Never been much of a coffee drinker... Used to drink several red bulls everyday, but my doctor put a swift end to that about six months ago... I went no caffeine for about four months but I don't get anything accomplished throughout the day without it... So I started grabbing Starbucks frappucinos but I hate the price... And I don't really enjoy the overly sweet aspect of them like I did when I was younger... I just get them because I have no idea what else to go with...

I'm going to start with a cheap machine but want to get some beans that I'll enjoy... Since so many here seem to be experts in this area I figured I'd ask for some suggestions... Probably not going to get anything too expensive, and probably going to steer clear of anything that a cat has #$%@ out, but other than that I'm open to try a wide variety...

Go to Bed, Bath, and Beyond... or order one from Amazon if you're patient... but just get yourself an Aeropress.

I make myself a thermos full of coffee every morning (2 cups) and sweeten it with just a bit of foo-foo creamer, like french vanilla or something (I use cold stone sweet cream).

You can make it as strong as you like, and pressing it removes all the bitterness of drip brewed coffee.

Used an Aeropress while in the 'Stan as getting hot water was much easier than getting brewed coffee. Instant coffee is only good for "coffee shooters". If you aren't drinking much coffee and can clean it right after use, it's the way to go.

But I'm not a coffee snob, and if you're drinking it more for the caffeine hit than pinky raising snobbery, Yuban is my favorite grocery store blend and almost always on sale somewhere.

Get a decent Bunn or Krups machine. Then experiment with beans and a cheap grinder until you find something you enjoy. You can purchase small quantities of beans at larger grocery and specialty stores. I prefer darker roasted coffee. Costa Rican beans are good. The wife like Community Coffee. Palama spoiled me with a bag of Lion Coffee from Hawaii. Really good stuff. Tasty and no bitterness.

YMMV

Fun Fact: The lighter the roast the more the caffeine. Roasting the bean removes caffeine as the caffeine is in the coffee cherry itself, which is why lighter roasts have more caffeine than darker roasts.

Personally i would recommend a Nepresso (Amazon special sale on BF) available at Target or Williams Sonoma they use a Pod and spin it at high speed at the end giving it a frothy taste unlike any other coffee i have ever had as low as 99 bucks but i would by the 200 dollar machine ,refillable or throwaway pods available on Amazon at decent prices. Sorry but i friggin love coffee and don't buy cheap stuff.. Another Good Machine is the Flavia..

We just have a $20 grinder and a French press. Get the whole beans from a coffee shop near us and grind it per cup.

Aeropress - $25

You can put any coffee you like in it, and I promise you it'll taste better than anything out of a machine.

Okay...not saying that the title doesn't fit the thread, because it does.

However, it wasn't what I was expecting. I read it more along the lines of, "Coffee(proper name)...HELP(desperate plea)!"

...which may be indicative of the kind of day I'm having, last full day of school before Thanksgiving break and the kids all losing their lovin' little MINDS!

But I'll second the aeropress, and throw in a "I DO love my Keurig for the 'hit the button on the way to the shower and grab the mug as I run out the door' days!" as well.

I did not until I started that job and the boss explained to me the only reason espresso has "more caffeine" is that its a concentrate when made in the espresso machine and that espresso beans brewed like a normal drip would be one of the least caffeinated coffees.

There are two basic coffee varieties, Robusta and Arabica, the former are higher in caffeine content when roasted the same. Brazil and Vietnam are big producers of cheap Robusta coffee beans.

Roasted my own beans for years but I've gotten lazy in my old age. Starbucks Ethiopian beans make a good cup of espresso or drip. The Sumatra ain't bad for drip either. Buy yourself a good grinder and experiment a bit. In my experience I'd have to say the grinder is the most important piece of hardware.
