I've seen a lot of these stupid commercials, and wonder if people actually fall for their sh*t.

"Accident forgiveness" and "new care replacement"... so you pay extra for these up front, and if you do get in an accident, they don't raise your rates because they already did. Or you get enough money for a car "one year newer" (Not brand new, unless your car is a year old or less) because you're paying for it up front.

Who actually buys into their smoke and mirror BS?

It's like those that are happy they got a tax-refund, isn't it?

People provide an interest-free loan, and then are giddy as a schoolgirl when they get their money back.

#-o

Obviously a lot of people "buy into it" because they don't "save".

I don't think it's smoke and mirror. It's just a matter of how much risk are you comfortable with and how much do you want to pay to mitigate it. They charge for it but there still is a benefit. Whether the benefit is worth it or necessary is personal preference to an extent.

I'm gonna let them compete with USAA and Geico come July when it's time to renew.

Tired of USAA having a re-insurance plan and co-branding motorcycle insurance in most states with Progressive and not being very open about that. Progressive's now dead founder helped start up and fund MoveOn.org and other lefty causes, which doesn't jive with many if not most USAA Member-Owners. So other than a 30 year term policy that is too expensive to replace (because of this forum's main hobby in my case) I won't be a client for anything else "for life".

That was my point... it's like they think you're not going to think about what they're saying. I guess a lot of people do not.

For you and TW...

So let me see if I got this right. In order to NOT get your rates raised IF you have an accident, you'll allow them to raise your rates BEFORE you have one? Because that's what they're doing...

Brilliant. [sarcasm]

it like leading VS buying. If you say one is always better than the other then there's not much to talk about. I always buy but it's not always the best route mathematically. Meh. You don't like it. There can be situations where it makes sense.

Just because you don't think it makes sense to wear a thong doesn't mean 8track shouldn't.

Some folks can not tolerate variation in their budget at all. It may be worth it for them to insure against it up front *shrug* I'd never do it but it's not really a scam .... Good marketing maybe.

USAA continues to be the platinum standard.

Everybody else chasing them.
