Plan on being there for a week but am not sure he will be there the entire time to show me the locals spots. I saw some cool bars on TV but he said most of those were tourist traps and just a place to have a drink and leave to say you been there kind of place. I went to Mardi Gras about 11 years ago and did not like it at all. He told me it is better outside of Bourbon St.

Deanies is a good seafood place, Mona Lisa's is a nice little pizza place on Royal, Orleans Grapevine wine bar and bistro is right off of bourbon and has some great food 2 doors down from a nice cigar shop, Cochon is a great place to eat outside of the quarter, Cats Meow is a great place to people watch and has a balcony that overlooks bourbon, Harry's corner bar is a neat little dive bar that won't break the bank...

Dante's Kitchen for Weekend breakfast/brunch. Cinnamon Rolls with bacon inside!! Great Bloody Mary's. Best breakfast ever ,and I have tried a lot of places.

Check out the clubs and restaurants on Frenchman's street. Gets you away from the crazy people on Bourbon. Great food and music. The Marsalis clan often can be found there.

The WWII Museum is worth the trip especially if you get lucky and they have some of the Vets there as volunteers. Got to talk to one of the guys that actually piloted the landing craft boats on D-Day.

Check the web. There are often free music performances in the various parks and squares. Buy a cheap bag chair and enjoy.

One time down there, wife and I had a gumbo taste test hitting every place we could. They were all good but the winner for us was Oceana Grill.

If you got a problem neighbor, you might want to stop in a voodoo shop and buy some of those blue dissolving cubes to chase the evil spirits out of your house.

In-person at their shop is probably a whole different experience, but for prepackaged coffee and chicory (e.g. like you see on supermarket shelves), Luzianne's version (red vacuum-sealed brick) is better than CDM's (metal can).

Forget about Acme Oyster House. Go to The Burbon House around the corner from AOH. They make the best charbroiled oysters you’ll ever taste. They also have some premium farmed oysters which are outstanding. Their crab cakes have zero bread crumbs only fresh crab and seasonings.

They best po-boys are at Johnny’s. For fried seafood check out Deanie’s in Bucktown.

My wife is from New Orleans. I lived their for 5 years. Let me know when you are going and my wife and I can drive down and meet you. We live about an hour and twenty minutes from the French Quarter.

I wish I could help you but the last time I was down there was over 33 years ago for Mardi Gras. Not only did the booze effect my memory but time as certainly taken it's toll. Have fun. 🍺
