the stock market has plunged during the past week or so, and took a dramatic drop today after China de-valued its currency...looks like Trump is getting his trade war...

Will this negative trade relationship between the world's two great economies trigger a deep recession?

Everyone I know who pulled back when asked questions like this in the past 10 years has regretted it.

What makes you think Trump will embark on any sort of significant trade war? This is Trump being Trump.
Accuse an adversary of heinous crimes. Threaten bad things. Let the other side come to the table bringing even just a little. Claim righteous victory.

Trump will NOT do something to tank the economy in the next 15 months. I'm not saying there won't be a deep recession...(though I seriously doubt it...too many good numbers right now)...just that if there is one, it won't likely be because Trump said something about China.

Being the egomaniac that he is, I don't think he would risk a recession during his re-election bid.

I think a pretty good indicator of where we are is the Nominal Wage Tracker.

https://www.epi.org/nominal-wage-tracker/

The condensed version it that we've been below the the targeted growth for a full recovery since 2007.

But the stock market is killing it so we should all party like it's the '80's. 🍺

He's actually done stuff, not just talk...we seem to be involved in the early stages of a trade war...tariffs imposed on both sides...now China purposely devaluing its currency..some experts say in response to Trump's announcement on August 1 of another tariff of 10% on $330B of Chinese goods, effective Sep 1, 2019....

If today's gun speech is any indication?
He will say the very least and do the very least to appease the deomcrats on gun control change( who want it) and marry it to the immigration reform bill that he wants badly..

He will let the Chinese thing "blow in the wind" till they back down...

If it turns into a waiting game, I bet China can ride out the trade war longer than the US can.

We’ve been in a trade way with China since the early 90’s, thing is we weren’t fighting.......now we’re actually doing something (good bad or indifferent)

Amazing the political theater now where you get in trouble with the same people for fighting, that question if you would if there was a 4th Reich.

As it should be... We as a nation should no longer accept products from China whose low price results directly from semi slave labor...

Anyone who complains about our national minimum wage should hold their tongue on this issue.... If Americans deserve liveable wages, so do the Chinese... And the reason the Chinese don't get them is America's consumption of low priced Chinese goods...

Any good manufactured in China that could be manufactured in the US should be taxed the second it hits our ports to an extent that will raise the price of said good to the price it would be had it been manufactured domestically...

I agree 100% with everything you said. I also believe that fair tariffs would create jobs domestically, instead of incentivizing these giant corporations to find the cheapest wages globally.

Watch shark tank, phil... First thing they (used to) tell anyone looking to manufacture in bulk: Get production over to China....

Why? They don't pay their workers and they don't follow environmental regulations so they can make it cheaper than anyone...

If we bring the prices of those goods up to what they should be - based on environmental policies and livable wages - corporations will no longer be incentivized to move production overseas...

A recession is possible at any time now. Tariffs are raising prices and thereby reducing expendable wages. I've noticed prices on some produce going up and despite what the moron in the white says- we are paying the tariffs - not the Chinese. And the new guy was right - this is the wrong forum
