I may be a bit anal when it comes to my cigars and i am sure there are others out there as well. Maintain as close to 70/70 as possible, rotation or the sticks every few months, inspection during rotation for cracks, splits, and mold ( only ever had two splits and no mold).

So here’s the question, Do you date your cigars so you remember when you got them? I use a little sticker and do month and year.

For boxes/bundles you receive, Sharpie the MM/YY of acquisition on them.* When removing a stick from a marked box/bundle and you're not going to smoke it immediately, transfer the MM/YY from the box/bundle to the stick's cello with a Sharpie.

For individual sticks you receive, Sharpie MM/YY on cello.

Advantages:

1. No annoying central spreadsheet or database is needed, nor its upkeep, backups, etc.
2. Every item has the MM/YY of acquisition right on it, no need to perform any lookups.
3. Give items to friends, there's the MM/YY already on the item for them to see.
4. No stickers, post-it notes or any other physical add-ons needed.
5. Near-zero effort, expense, complexity.

* When Sharpie-marking a box or bundle, if the surface is porous (e.g. unfinished wood) one MM/YY is sufficient, but if the surface is less-pourous or non-pourous (e.g. typical bundle cellophane, slick-finished boxes, etc.) write two or more MM/YY copies for redundancy if possible, as some of the writing may wear off due to handling over many years).

Date, month, year for me on a round sticky.
I have a mild case of OCD...........Excel is my friend, and tracks date, storage location, purchase price and tasting notes.
I have a modest collection, typically between 600 and 1,000 cigars, but I know exactly where each and every one of them is resting, allowing me to easily and quickly find what I want to smoke.

Similar to what Horst does except for the Location. Tried to keep track but eventually too many cigars made for too much Cigar Tetris so was spending way too much time on it.

In the past, I'd use a fine point Pilot gel pen to mark the month and year of acquisition and if appropriate, the person who I acquired the cigar from on each cigar. To avoid possible damage to the wrapper leaf, I'd put this info on the excess cello below the foot; or on the band if the cigar came w/o cello....

It got time consuming (I'm a lazy bazturd) so I've honed my cigar dating skills over the years to the point where a few sniffs will tell me the month and year of acquisition and the identity of the person from whom I obtained it...:^o

after smoking several outstanding cigars, and not remembering when I got them or whether or not they were acquired from someone else, I resumed marking each cigar...

I hated not being able to give a shout out to the person who gave me an excellent smoke...

I started with dating. Then chronic laziness reared its ugly head. I do keep lists of smokes received from others so I can direct thanks appropriately

Good Lord, no. And I have OCD. Too much trouble. Besides, I usually have a pretty good idea, and if I really want to know, I can just go back over my receipts.

Only Cubans. And then, only if they're in deep storage outside of the box. If they go from box to 'ready-issue' humi, I don't bother.
