A few units bought iPads for patients to see family on facetime n stuff since there's no visitors. We have one, but our stepdown unit does not.
I got a call from upstairs, they asked if I had an iPad they could borrow. One of our patients was asking for chicken noodle soup and I had none, so I told them I'd trade if they had a can of that in their cabinets (cafeteria is closed after 6pm) They said they had one can. I said deal.
I went downstairs to central supply and procured a box of eye pads. Went upstairs with the iPad tucked into my scrubs and an eye pad in my shirt pocket. There was a can of chicken noodle soup on the desk and I asked "who needed the iPad?" They looked at me like I had two heads. I repeated myself, and said "someone called downstairs and asked to borrow our iPad and I said I'd trade for a can of soup. I see a can of soup here, so who the fuxk needed the iPad?" One girl came forward and said she did. So I handed her the eye pad. She took it but gave no reaction... The joke went WAY over her head... so I gave her the Apple product and left. ZERO laughs were had other than my own.
House supervisor was making rounds later and remarked on my sink o da mayo hits that he noticed. I told him about the eye pads. He took a handful cause he gets a lot of calls from other units looking for them, fully appreciated the effort and said he's going to keep it going while I'm enjoying my week off.
