It's way past the civil war names and statues. That I will always feel differently about than many here do. This is now an attack on America. You want to destroy statues of great Americans, or great human beings? That isn't our America. Our America is a place I am willing to lay down my life for. Yeah I'm just one insignificant old man. Yeah, politically neither side gives a crap about me. I'm not willing to give up on us, the people. I honestly feel that's what it's come down to. Maybe, just maybe something else will rise from the ashes. I am going to do my best to help that happens. I know that isn't much, yet it is the best I can do. By the way, those ashes may be real, or just allegorical.

it's not really the statues...if we as a people were more like our ideals, where we treat everyone as equals, those monuments of stone and metal would mean little... many were purposely erected as symbols of power and intimidation

but given our history of one race dominating and oppressing others, with a legal framework for segregation and subjugation only 55 years in the past, and in the decades since the legal end to discrimination showing very little effect on the lives of most blacks and minorities, there's pent up animosity...

fueling this outpouring of rage is the partnership of some whites, who recognize the harm and wrongfulness that systemic racism has caused, especially in this era where ugly acts of racism, which were hidden from view in the past, are now captured on video and shown around the globe ...

the younger generations of Americans may lead this country into a more egalitarian future, whereas the older generations in power will fight to maintain the status quo...

How does our "system" hold anyone down? We have black doctors, lawyers, politicians, business owners, athletes, cops, etc... inner city troubles are the direct result of democrat policies.
