commercial shipping anyway, probably not, when things go badly with a gubment program it's always the taxpayers that get stuck with the bill.
I only provided one example cause I don't have time to provide the many other rent-seeking, taxpayer subsidy mooching, bail-out seeking non-capitalists from the 19th Century to the present.

What I'm ultimately saying though, is huge ideas and huge advances in civilization don't happen without groups coming together, subsidization, or outside financing and backing of some sort... and the really big advancements don't come without government help.
I personally like our government... I think it's one of the best in the world. It allows different people with different agendas to voice their opinions and try to make a change for the better in some way. I'm sure many politicians get into it for that very purpose... but any time you put people into the mix, chaos happens. Every problem all of a sudden becomes more complex (mathematically and philosophically).
Our system, when it's working correctly, in my opinion should allow for very little change. Let's say someone comes in... causes too much ruckus... pisses the masses off, they elect donald trump. He comes in, wipes out the last guys changes... puts in a bunch of new stupid sh*t... he pisses the masses off... next guy comes in, wipes out trump's sh*t and nothing gets done.
