More than 100 illegal immigrants released by the Border Patrol into Texas since late January have tested positive for the coronavirus following their arrival, officials in a city on the U.S.-Mexico border tell Fox News.

Felipe Romero, a spokesperson for Brownsville, said Wednesday that the 108 positives represent 6.3% of the number of total migrants who have been rapid-tested at the city’s main bus station, where they are being released by the Border Patrol. Rapid testing of the individuals began there on Jan. 25.

He added that Brownsville does not have the authority to prevent those who test positive from traveling elsewhere in the U.S. -- and are advising them to quarantine, follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and socially distance.

Sources at the White House told Fox News on Wednesday it is aware of instances where individuals may continue to travel despite testing positive and being told to quarantine -- yet the federal guidance remains for them to isolate.

The sources said the coronavirus testing near the border is being handled by state and local governments in conjunction with non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

The city of Brownsville also told Noticias Telemundo Investiga that it is advising migrants who test positive to go to NGOs and nonprofits in the area for help with finding shelter and places they can isolate themselves from others. The local county-wide positivity rate is estimated to be 13.8%.

Migrant families who tested positive and spoke to that news organization at the bus station said they were waiting to travel to places such as Maryland and New Jersey.

"On the way, we were wearing a mask all the time, gel, washing our hands," Eva Orellana, a 29-year-old from Honduras who came to the U.S. with her 3-year-old daughter, told Noticias Telemundo Investiga.

She added that she was going to take a bus to North Carolina and had purchased tickets.

"Really, I don't feel anything," she said.

Miriam Izaguirre, a 35-year-old from Honduras who also tested positive, told Noticias Telemundo Investiga that she planned to travel by bus to Houston.

"Right now we were tested for Covid and they separated about eight of us because we were positive," she said. "We are waiting right now."

Migrants also said they were told of their positive test result by station workers, but were not provided any documents noting so, Noticias Telemundo Investiga reports. They simply were told to stand in a different waiting area from other individuals, it added.

A worker at a bus company that operates out of the station told the news organization they cannot ask passengers for proof of coronavirus test results before boarding.

Migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border on Tuesday were photographed wearing T-shirts in support of President Biden at the San Ysidro crossing port in Tijuana, Baja California state.

One apparent migrant held up a poster that read, "Biden, please let us in!"

Prospective U.S. residents and progressive Democrats are hoping the new president will implement more lenient immigration policies than former President Trump, though some politicians like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., have expressed concern with Biden's use of migrant holding facilities at the border.

There has been a recent surge in the number of unaccompanied minors arriving at the U.S. border from Mexico, according to The Wall Street Journal, though the Biden administration has rejected the term "crisis" to describe the situation.

The president is working to process as many as 25,000 asylum seekers who were forced to wait in Mexico under the Trump administration's "Remain-in-Mexico" policy under the Migrant Protection Protocol (MPP) program.

Biden has promised to accept more refugees into the country during his time in office and implement more "humane" policies, such as a proposal to pay for the transportation and health care costs of migrant families who were separated at the border under the Trump administration.
Congressional Democrats in February introduced Biden-backed immigration legislation that includes a path to citizenship for an estimated 11 million immigrants who are already residing in the U.S. illegally.

It also includes expanded distribution of automatic green cards to immigrants with Temporary Protected Status as well as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients and a plan to give $4 billion to Central American countries in an effort to target the "root causes" for migration into the U.S.

EXCLUSIVE: Biden Spending Millions per Day to Halt Border Wall Construction

The pause on construction of the border wall costs taxpayers about six million dollars per day while construction sites sit idle, Breitbart Texas learned from a senior Department of Homeland Security official. On Sunday, March 21, the 60-day pause in construction of the border wall is scheduled to end.

According to the source, the expenditures are required for materials orders placed before the pause and expenses for the cost of equipment sitting idle. When the issuance of a stop work order causes a contractor to idle equipment, they are entitled to be compensated for rental expenses or costs of ownership.

Shortly after taking office, President Biden signed an executive order temporarily halting any further progress on the border wall so individual contracts could be evaluated. With the exception of “make-safe” activities at the worksites, construction projects immediately came to a standstill, Breitbart Texas reported. The end of the 60-day pause does not, however, signal an automatic restart of construction.

Early in the pause, a spokesperson for the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) informed Breitbart Texas that contractors would be informed of a final decision sometime after the 60-day pause concludes. The time was to be used for evaluating each contract to reach a decision to terminate-for-cause or continue.

The Biden administration has not indicated which direction they will take regarding the end of the pause. Little information concerning the immigration crisis on the border has come from the leadership team within DHS and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Senior officials within DHS reported being instructed not to speak to national media on the issues facing DHS at the border. Information from other agencies within the new administration is equally elusive. USACE did not respond to a request for information concerning the end of the pause and the border wall contracts currently being evaluated.

As the deadline looms for a decision to be reached, equipment still sits idle. In Eagle Pass, Texas, a 51.9-million-dollar fence contract hangs in the balance. The equipment gathers dust and the contractor still awaits a decision. Other problems appearing along the border may be taking precedent over the status of the border wall contracts.

In recent days, the Secretary of DHS, Alejandro Mayorkas has said “We are on pace to encounter more individuals on the southwest border than we have in the last 20 years,”. In addition to the surge of migrants that are being apprehended along the border, a significant amount of illegal migrant traffic is also avoiding arrest. The administration was also not prepared for the onslaught of unaccompanied children crossing the border as policy changes were being made.

In addition to the daily expenses related to the pause of border wall construction, additional costs to taxpayers are likely on the horizon if the administration does decide to close out the contracts permanently.

re: post 12.
Didn't read it, I'm sure the point is made in the Blue headline.
Plus there are even more important mistakes the new administration has made.

But I did chuckle seeing breitbart as the source.
It reminded me about former Breit-leight Trump mentor White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon pulling the scam to make millions conning Trumpists to donate to his Build the Wall fake fund raiser.

As for mistakes...YOU VOTED THIS CLOWN IN! Your "news" sources told us it was Trump that disgraced this nation but world leaders didn't dare talk to the US reps the way China, DPRK, Turkey and China do now. In another week it'll be more nations because NOBODY respects this goofball administration.

To stop illegal aliens a single wall is not very effective. Dig a moat about 100 feet deep and 100 feet wide. Lay in walls and a bottom of siliconized cement. Then lay a layer hardened steel. Finish with another layer of siliconized cement. Fill the moat with a highly conductive fluid and electrify it with a high amperage system. Place barriers on both sides with accurate warnings. Place automated raised gun turrets at appropriate distances. Blow anything that floats out of the water. Problem gone.

your unrestrained rage not only blinds you, it convinces you that you can read minds...per usual you are wrong in that assumption, though unintentionally providing humorous entertainment.

Unlike you, I voted in each of the last two elections. You thought so little of Clinton AND Trump you sat it out!
Not even third party, which is what I did faced with the same choices as you. Sat it out...in silent protest? HA!
This does not qualify you to be lecturing anyone on their choices in supporting Democracy.
No vote, no right to disparage others.

You voted once, the time Trump lost.
I again felt as though a boost for a third party to be a better option, a decision made easier by my desire to put Trump in the rearview mirror and the electoral college (I live in MA).

So again you really have no idea of my politics. But go on with your angry swipes. Misdirected and more about your emotional state than anything based on what I do as a cause of it.

Also, you forgot North Korea in your list of Communist dictatorships that played your hero, the guy you voted for just once, and that was after a sizeable majority of the nation and most of the world wanted him gone.

In my recent post that pushed you over the edge yet again, I prefaced my Breitbart/Bannon comments by saying that there were more important mistakes being made than a few million dollars a day. Hardly part of circling the DNC wagons or protecting the POTUS...but you missed it.

I lost count...was that strike three?
