When I first got into premium cigars, I fretted ALL THE TIME about getting the RH correct. Three or 4 digital hygrometers, for my, at the time, 1 and only coolerdor. Constantly checking, constantly calibrating, constantly losing my mind when the RH was too high. Thought mebbe my 65% Heartfelt beads were defective. Paranoia struck deep.

Then one day as we were discussing this very topic, a wise brother (…mighta been Cacman…) asked me how my cigars were smoking and I said “Perfectly fine.” So then he said to ditch the hygrometers and trust the beads. I did as he suggested and 5 more coolerdors later, that’s exactly how I’ve operated. These days I use both beads and Bovedas without a hygrometer in sight and my cigars smoke perfectly fine.

Trust the process.

Same. I remember questioning whether the whole hobby was worth it if storage was going to be so much work

Thought that was to check wooden humis? Never thought to check the tuppers

Palama thanks for this. It helps! I’m just anal retentive enough to be overly concerned with this crap and like you said, the cigars are smoking just fine (I think)

So many guys here have said to ditch the hygrometer and just trust the Bovedas but my issue is that right now the hygrometer is at 55% with 2 65% bovies in there.

IM BEING RIDICULOUS! I know!

I eventually started not even using hygrometers and trusting the boveda packs instead with no issues. I'd worry more about how they smoke and go from there than the hygrometer reading. My guess is hygrometer is not accurate or the cigars have a decent amount of humidity and the boveda pack needs time to do its its thing.

hahaha, I have been called a lot worse..

At that point, we will "suggest" he pre-cut every cigar upon arrival and test BOTH ends, not just the foot. Then calculate the foot/head average and log the RH by wrapper, counrty of origin, location in the humidor, etc...

That should keep him busy for a while longer.

I mean, he seems pretty detail oriented.

If Mraia gets one of those huniduty testers I think two would be better. Trusting just one is just not the way to go. Trust but verify. Maybe three would be safest.
