When I first got into premium cigars, I fretted ALL THE TIME about getting the RH correct. Three or 4 digital hygrometers, for my, at the time, 1 and only coolerdor. Constantly checking, constantly calibrating, constantly losing my mind when the RH was too high. Thought mebbe my 65% Heartfelt beads were defective. Paranoia struck deep.

Then one day as we were discussing this very topic, a wise brother (…mighta been Cacman…) asked me how my cigars were smoking and I said “Perfectly fine.” So then he said to ditch the hygrometers and trust the beads. I did as he suggested and 5 more coolerdors later, that’s exactly how I’ve operated. These days I use both beads and Bovedas without a hygrometer in sight and my cigars smoke perfectly fine.

Trust the process.

Doesnt matter what type of container you use, if your seal suqs, issues will be chronic………..UNLESS……….the RH in the room, closet, basement, or wherever the “humi” is, is perfect.

I have lived in places where 7-8 months out of the year, I could have probably kept my cigars in a dresser drawer, and they would have been fine.

So many guys here have said to ditch the hygrometer and just trust the Bovedas but my issue is that right now the hygrometer is at 55% with 2 65% bovies in there.

Both, tho lately I'm thinking that the analogs are often more accurate. I've seen 10 % or more variations in some of my digitals and mark them as to the variant up or down. I never have had to change the batteries in an analog.[sarcasm]

It's really the only way to know the RH of each cigar. All the cool kids have one. You know you really want it. It's not that expensive. You deserve it. It will give you peace of mind. It's a good investment. Think of the children.

I imagine that in a few months after the excitement of the new toy subsides, you’ll be looking at it and think to yourself, “Damn, Why TF did I buy this? I coulda used that $30 to overbid on some $20 cigars! Even after checking the RH on every one of my cigars, I’m still paranoid and do weekly checks on them. Every. Franking. Week. Every. Franking. Cigar. And I still fret over the RH in my storage containers! My obsession got WORSE, not better! Stogie you franker, I’ll NEVER listen to you again! Ever!” [ram27bat]

At that point, we will "suggest" he pre-cut every cigar upon arrival and test BOTH ends, not just the foot. Then calculate the foot/head average and log the RH by wrapper, counrty of origin, location in the humidor, etc...

That should keep him busy for a while longer.

I mean, he seems pretty detail oriented.

I’mma thinking 7 would be even better, you know, one for every day of the week. Or, of course, could use all 7 of them to test every cigar. Like you said, trust but verify.
