How's this for thinking on my feet.

1. We're talking about supporting the troops, right?
2. People tie what color ribbons around trees?

Hey, who's the Teflon poster? I'm the Teflon poster!

That was to Robby...

Mag - What about Powell's proof? If we have proof we should be able to find it pretty quickly, otherwise where did we get the proof?? It doesn't add up, especially with the pressure that's being applied.

Also with our speeches to the UN the focus was on WOMD and chemicals and how they violated the resolutions. The terrorism thing is an easy fallback, but we still need to back our proof with actual results. I hope we do find proof so we don't lose credibility.

Are you saying that's what you meant? Last I heard Teflon wasn't synonymous with backpedaling...

Of COURSE that's what I meant! Why I resemble the inference that I would have called in to question the virility, courage, and intestinal fortitude of one of my fellow brothers of the leaf! I was simply offering an option to red, which would also serve the purpose of supporting our troops. For shame Mr. cwilhelmi, for shame... I stand ready to accept your apology.

Chris, there are still snipers all over the place. Its not as easy as you say when you have to constantly watch your back. With time these weapons will be found.

And as for the terrorism excuse you claim is an easy fallback. Tell that to the families of the THREE THOUSAND KILLED on 9/11. See how long it takes one of those people to take your head off!

Mag,does Romania ring a bell. A brutal Dictator overthrown and not one drop of American blood lost. What you do is support the faction that will help a country do it internally. BTW,we weren't there because Romania's chief export is not oil. X

Robby -
Wasn't willing to give the military opinion you were looking for in the Dixie Chicks threads because I'm not in full possession of all the facts and figures. I'm not going to comment on the reasons for the war in Iraq either. I just have one comment...has anyone else noticed how quiet everyone's been since we kicked Saddam's a$#? North Koreans...backing down, Syrians...we're sorry, what can we do to help, Palestinians...not a peep. Think maybe they're afraid they'll be next? Just an observation from a proud member of the USAF!

Interesting point Ksinger. BTW,you should be proud. My brother served in the USAF. As a kid,I was proud as punch. I thought he was flying around in F86 Sabres. He was actually a dental tech. My Nephew is in the USAF. Going to Saudi Arabia. X

xi - It always amazes me how many people think that the AF is all pilots...I get that all the time. My career field was actually the only one bigger than the pilot career field (on the officer side anyway). Tell your nephew to enjoy it. I spent 3 1/2 months there last year. If it wouldn't have been for having to leave my family back home, I'd go back in a second! Tell him to buy you some ISOMs from the British BX or the Green Bean Cafe!

OK X, I'm going to let your war for oil talk stand for now. Lets assume you are right.

What do you think would happen to the world economy or just the US economy if oil wasnt available at a reasonable price.

Its not just oil & gas for your car. Its what lubricates all the machinery that help produce products, made in this country.

All our lifestyles would be affected by this. No exceptions. Millions of people.

Are you also against drilling in Alaska or off the coast of Santa Barbara at the Channel Islands? If you are then we need the middle east to remain stable.

I hope you are for drilling, because our dependece on oil has compromised our leverage diplomatically with countries like Saudi Arabia. Why do you think they get away with the crap they do.

We should be self sufficiant on oil.

Now oil isnt the reason Bush started this war, but its not a bad thing, that this is affecting how other countries that control oil producing, are being good right now. Its a nice side affect, but its probably temporary though.

Bush cant help it that most of the troublemakers in the world produce oil. Thats just bad luck politcally.

Now on the terrorism. I dont care what a country produces. If they directly cause terrorism or support it, I want the responsible authorities snuffed out.

Did you hear that the highjacker of that cruise ship a few years back was caught in Iraq? This highjacker tossed overboard a guy in a wheelchair. He died.

Iraq gave this known international criminal safe harbor. We cant allow people to get away with this stuff or it will never stop.

Well I gotta quit rambling. Just my opinion.

I have strong and rather well known feelings about the path the U.S. is on ...

But, more importantly, it bothers me ... a lot ... to see guys I consider my friends becoming antagonistic with one another and calling each other names ...

It should be possible to remain civil with one another even when our thoughts and feelings differ

Please ...

Somebody asked the question "If Iraq's main export was flowers would we be going to war?"

First of all, that's a bogus question.
If their main export was flowers, they wouldn't have the financial fortitude to build WOMD and assemble a (previously considered) formidable military presence.

So, the answer would be a resounding "no".

Now, as for the "Oil War" arguement that those with no ammunition for debate tend to put on the table, I ask this:
What exactly do you mean when you claim this is about oil?

I've been out for awhile, Back now.. and this Post Amazes me... Saddam is Done... Syria and all the rest of the Country's who are Harboring Terrorism had better be Back Peddeling... because there was a War on Terror Started on 911 and it wasn't by Our Hands... In Northern Iraq during this Campaign there were over 1200 Al-Quida linked Terrorists working cells in Iraq that were Annihilated in one Move... But UN and Saddam kept saying they were not Harboring Terrorists... to go on.. there were and still is WOMD being found.. their just not Broadcasting it like whats on a Menu for everyday specials.. and what was posted in the Wash.post/times and other sites is all but not linked any longer.. remember a few posts back with links about the 101st coming across the stuff and then it was hushed up.. those links are all but gone... There are so many underground tunnels and crap these guys are still coming across and probably Booby trapped and what not... when I was in Kuwait in 96-97 5 and 6 years after the Gulf War.. there were places on the base I was at that were still roped off because of Booby Trapped from the Iraqi's Occupation Prior to... there are still many Obsticals being over come and the search will be going on for a long time to come...
X and Chris, I cannot see how anyone can still be so Narrow Minded as you two's views of this is for Oil and where are the WOMD's?? Saddam was a Hitler and Stallin All wrapped up into one... and now their people are free'd ..Yes it cost American Lives and so Did Romainia (You Need to get the Facts, not what you read in Liberal media Polls) Syria will probably be Next... and North Korea following... but when GWB and Our Government Put their Foot Down after 911 and said this will not happen to this country again... Allot of these Country's around the world are listening!!!!! Especially Now

the UN... What a Frickin Joke... they are finding out now.. that Annon and France and many others dealing under the Table with Saddam's Iraq with the Food for Oil Program was Imbezzeling (sp)and raw dealing with Iraq under everyone's Nose... its Not about Oil Boy's!!!! its about MONEY!!!!! I said it before and all along... and I will always say it... grease the Palm and they'll kill your whole family and not think twice... is this the people we want setting Policy's for the World??

You can Hate our President and his Administration and even the Troops who protect your Freedoms... but I am sick and tired of hearing the Whiners wanting to know where this is or that is... and over looking the Just Cause's because its hurting there Pocket Books.. their the same one's who'd sell out there Mothers to get ahead!!!!!!

BTW where are those 3 Syrian Ships that left port when the Inspectors first went into Iraq??? we don't know but our Government Does!!!!!!!

I'd give a Grand for a 5 pack of Cigars from Uday's Private Stock!!!!!!! LMAO!!!!!!

While I'm waiting for an answer, let me offer my opinion regarding another perception and/or misconception.
I honestly don't care if the Iraqi citizens were ruled by a cruel dictator. Sure, it's a nice byproduct of this war, but it's not a reason to lose even one American life for.
The reason for the war was and always will be the issue of long term US Safety. Saddam ignored requests, mandates and threats regarding his arsenal of weapons. How much WOMD "evidence" we find now that France gave him over a month to ditch it all will never be known. That doesn't change the fact that the world is now a safer place because Saddam is not in power.
How an intelligent American can believe a known sadistic Dictator over the US Government is beyond me.
