Just curious why they're not using some 'real' forum software like vBulletin? I run a couple huge forums, and we could have TONS more features. Right now we really don't have any features ... just wondering.

I think I speak for most of the great guys and gals on this board when I say "Thats what we love about this forum" Its simple, and I for one vote we keep it that way!

You don't have to use all those 'extra' features if you don't want, the Admin can turn them off. But things like private messages would be nice.

I like this forum also. The only thing I would like to see added would be profiles of people. You could see favorite smokes, dislikes, and any other info they want to put up.

I was just thinking the same thing.

There was a thread similar to this one awhile back ... and Gonz explained why these forums are set-up the way they are ...

I can't seem to find it ... mainly because I can't remember the title of the thread, but he did say (I think) that there are going to be 'some' changes made the middle of this year.

As far as the profiles go ... I think that there were some privacy issues involved, since this is a retail site (unlike most the other 'big' forums) ... but I'm not really sure ...

Hopefully ... Gonz will 'chime in' and set us all straight ... once again .... LOL!

I really like it this way. No goofy icons. The alternate shading of posts make reading easier. The more bells and whistles that get added just seem to take away from the discussion content.

hog - why all the animosity? As someone else already pointed out, management here has plans to add more of the features I mentioned ... so it's obviously more than just 'my fancy'. Change can be good you know.

I'll put nicely. You are a newbie, maybe you should let us get to know you before you suggest changes.

Many here including myself like CBid the way its been. Some minor changes may be useful, but the simplistic format of this site is part of its attraction.

I hope Gonz's changes are minor ones myself. Just my opinion.... :>)

Sure, you may like it ... and that's fine. Just to me, as someone who knows forum software like the back of my hand, this site is lacking pretty much every feature of your typical forum. A lot of those I'm sure wouldn't be needed here, but some would be nice. That was my only point. There's a reason why the traffic here is soooo slow, because there aren't enough features to hold peoples attention.

The whole point of forum's are to create communities, to facilitate meeting and communicating with people with like interests. There are features that could be added here to make that easier and more engaging for everyone, without adding flash that would scare off the more old fashioned users. A simple compromise ...
