Mag, rape isn't about sex, it's about violence, power and domination. Yes, he could afford the finest prostitutes, but does that mean that the only men who rape women are ugly men who couldn't get sex otherwise? Or poor men would couldn't afford to pay a prostitute? Nope, that's not it at all. you'll see plenty of rapists who are for all intents and purposes "normal looking" and of adequate means. if you ar refering to adultery as an unspeakable act, i agree. if you are talking about rape, i was always under the impression a person was innocent until found guilty by a jury of one's peers.

latest info is that the girl overdosed two weeks ago and has some mental problems that contributed to that.

The Orange County Register reported today that Kobe's accuser tried to commit suicide several weeks ago. First a tryout on American Idol and now suicide. Imagine what the defense will do with that. They will paint her accusation as the ravings of a mad woman.

Jon, I heard what Rick said on ESPN tonight. I've never quoted them for news, but I havent ever heard bad things about what they report.

I'm sticking with innocent until proven guilty. Too many losers pray on famous people, and put them into very tempting positions constently.

Too many temptations at such a young age, thay have little life experience to fall back on. Some cant handle it, but I think Kobe can.

I realize there are many bad apples in the sports/entertainment industry, but in this case it is a first time.

I feel others have been much worse and get chance after chance to come back, only to repeat the same offences over and over. We dont know yet if he fits this profile.

I say he deserves 1 chance to screw up, he is only human. Now if it happens again, well, I am probably wrong, and he deserves no mercy....:>)

Her mental stability is not what is at questions here. What is at question is whether or not she was raped, and there should be physical evidence supporting that claim if it happened. We already know that there's one kind of physical evidence... Now comes, the exam, her nails, bruising, vaginal tearing, the state of the room, etc...

Also, while her mental state is at issue, his past is certainly fair game as well. i.e., if they can produce anyone who says, "yeah, he likes it rough..." that would demonstrate a pattern of behavior.

And Mag, I'm hoping that by "I say he deserves 1 chance to screw up" you don't mean he gets one free rape.

I’m pretty certain of the following;

1. The evidence in the case will show that he did it and is guilty.

2. His defense attorneys will get him off.

This is the problem with our legal system. If I were out there in the hotel and accused of raping this young woman, public sentiment would NOT be on my side and they would throw the book at me. But because;

1. He’s a celebrity.

2. He’s an athletes.

3. He’s African American

They have to tip toe around on egg shells before they even decide if they’re going to prosecute! I was watching the news this morning and the reporter was lamenting the fact that African Americans only comprise .8% in the county where he’s being charged and that could “cause trouble for his ability to get a fair trial”. So in other words, blacks should only sit in judgment of blacks, whites should only sit in judgment of whites, Asians should only sit in judgment of Asians? It’s this sort of crap that fans the flames of division and mistrust in this country in 2003 and will continue to do so in 3003 if we’re still a nation…
